Looking for a holster for my blackhawk with 4 5/8 barrel. Mainly for walking the woods and ranch duties. Definitely needs to be leather and prefer strong side carry unless someone talks me into a good reason for crossdraw. Been looking at Tom Threepersons from El Paso saddlery and a Bianchi lawman. What are your suggestions and post some pics please.
As a side note if this turns out to be a real shooter thinking of sending it off and have the receiver color case hardened and maybe some engraving ~50% coverage. Add a Bisley hammer and action job.

The Galco SAO hunter is a nice starter holster. It works both strongside and cross draw. Has a strap for security and well, made

I personally really like Simply Rugged holsters. There Sour Dough pancake style holster holds the gun next to your body really well and controls the gun far better that Three Persons styles holsters do. For a working holster it really shines I feel. The Three Persons for a range holster is better, easier to reholstering guns is more important than its moving around as you work.
Rob is a great guy to deal with and really supports the shooting sports world.
But then that just my opinion.

For sure check out Mike Barranti's website & you will find the right rig for your Blackhawk shorty. Normally I would suggest his cross draw 2DXD I think it is, maybe wrong but for doing ranch work a strong side rig is better. His Longhorn model might be just what you need. If you get one, order it with the long tie down strap, not the thong, that way you can quickly unsnap it with a gloved hand if needed just by swiping the glove up though the strap, or by grabbing the long strap.
Another good option is Rob Leahy's Pancake rig with the Chesty Puller harness, I've had one for many years, since he was still in Alaska & it's a very nice rig for carrying center chest, I use it all the time when I'm fishing. Both are great guys to deal with. Dick

I have several El Paso saddlery Tom threepersons holsters. For the price they are of excellent quality and will last you a lifetime. They look pretty darn nice to.

I have holsters from just about all of the popular manufacturers as well as a few from “small batch” guys. Most are pretty good and very serviceable for what they are. The one disappointment I have is a Freedom Arms holster. Clearly, and hands down, the best of the bunch is Mike “Doc” Barranti ... just be prepared to wait a while unless you can luck into what you want in stock.

As per the duties you are describing, I might suggest a strong-side Threepersons with a hammer thong as opposed to a strap, forward 15 degree cant, through your belt-loops on your Wranglers. Please pardon the "personal testimony" that is to follow- I work on a ranch full time and spend time in feed trucks, tractors, atvs, and on horseback. Building fence, digging drain-offs, setting pipe, welding, working/doctoring cows, roping, feeding, and a myriad of other duties fall into my purview. The aforementioned rig accompanied by a six round slide on my left hip is both out of the way and easily accessible in all previously mentioned conditions/activities. As far as an all around rig that successfully holds my pistol in place, stays out of the way, yet still offers accessibility when needed, the Tom Threepersons with hammer thong has served me well, both for planned shots with plenty of time on the ground or in a vehicle, and quick work when the target is only briefly in sight while on horseback. Mine was built my Mark Fedders with Lobo Gun Leather- lobogunleather.com/. Hopefully Mark won't mind me posting his website. Unfortunately for him, he did such a great job with it that I've not had to order another. As a side note, I'll also point out that the most well designed holster in the world is useless without a proper belt to accompany it. I use the Simply Rugged 1 3/4 "Real Man's Gunbelt" and have not looked back. As per your request, I will provide some visual aid within the next 24 hours. I have to admit, I swap for a shoulder rig in the winter when a jacket/coat becomes necessary. However, when weather permits the jacket to be left at home, I always go to the Threepersons for a pistol of that barrel length.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Tom Threepersons with hammer thong. Six round ammo slide on the off side. I will be pairing them with a true pistol belt. Don’t want no sagging. In for the pics

The Threepersons design is one of my favorites and I prefer them with a thong. Have a bunch from El Paso Saddlery. This is a Single Six rig with a cap pouch for .22's and cartridge loops for .32's. Here's one I did that's based on the Threepersons, with a little different shape to it. Covered in black shark. Same design with a tension screw. Some might view it as an outdated design but a Slim Jim offers a lot of utility. The Hank Sloan pattern, made famous by Milt Sparks, is also very good. My version uses a tension screw in lieu of the adjustable welt.

I was never a fan of the fish scale stamping until I saw your rig. That is sweet. At this point I’m 90% sure I’m going with a Threepersons holster in basket weave

Here are a trio of mine, the two on the left are by Graveyard Jack Gunleather, the tan one from Mike Barranti. I bought thsesese for everyday carry so had them made without the retaining strap/thong. All carry very well and are very quick on the draw. I'm right handed, so prefer my cartridges on my right side just behind the holster, as I hold the gun in my left hand and shove the cartridges into the gun with my Wright hand. Bob Wright

For a six-gun worn all day, at work, want the trigger guard well covered. Want to be able to slide it a bit behind the hip bone for when doing physical work. If your gonna be carrying things heavy enough to be hugged to you, no cross draw. Pretty is the second or third concern.
