Funny thing is, I was sorting through some book shelves and found my copy a few weeks ago. Read it again, and marvled at how times have changed. Dang, I'm gettin old.

Nice, thanks, Hoss. To which revolver and cartridge is "The New Magnum For 45 Fans" on the cover referring?
Jeepnik, you wrote that you "Marvled at how times have changed" . I find it intereesting how much and how many things have stayed the same, or so it would seem. Or at least there being little (nothing) new under the sun.
Thank you. Max.

No offense or agism intended, Odis. My youngest is 19 now... Ugh. I picked up my original copy of "Magnum Handguns" at a 7-11 in Georgetown Colorado in 1980. This publication had the same effect on me that Jeff Coopers magazine had on Taffin, or that "Sixguns" had on 50s era teens. I was hooked. The article on the Howdah pistols in particular ruined me. To this day I daydream of screaming elephants and beads hastily drawn as the tiger claws its way upward... a hearty boom as both barrels discharge, the range close enough to leave scorch marks on the great cat, and the beast collapses, visible faintly on the jungle floor through the wafting smoke.... It opened my eyes. I saw what the handgun had once been, and would become again. I was hooked.

The 45 Win Mag was the cartridge in question... theres an interesting article by Mas Ayoob on pewter bullets, too. 2000 fps out of a 4" 357...
