There are lots of options, for revolver grips, Wood stag ivory laminate synthetic, rubber, and probably more i can,t think of. A classic type revolver, or one built in the classic style , should in my mind have wood stag, ivory or another natural Material , I hope to send my Bisley single 7 off to Bobby Tyler for Case hardening reblue and action work. To me the gun needs a natural grip, probably be wood, maybe stagg, no way i am buying ivory, to much money, . The purpose built hunting revolver Gary Reeder ,is building will be a whole nother thing, its his ultimate Black widow, in .454. It will have his black gloss finish, and just a little bit of gold lined writing and a couple spiders laser engraved on the cylinder. I am having him put Matt black Bisley gunfighter corian grips on that one. The ones in the picture on Gary's Web sight look just fine to me and i am told they are greatly durable, and that suits the purpose of that revolver fine, So the rest of my Ruger single actions, are as follows , 7.5 inch blue Bisley 44 mag , 5.5 inch Plow handle 45LC , a new adjustable sighted bearcat. All those guns strike me as classic style, and anywork i do to those guns will likely follow that pattern. But my 5.5inch SS bisley 41 mag, Strikes me as more purpose built. I have already done a little work to it myself and as soon as i get the pin punch set i ordered i will be putting a blue steel Fermin Garza Patridge style front sight on it and a Keith #5 style Cylinder pin is on the way As well as a Bowen Rough country rear sight. The Ruger grips are the laminated type and not well fitted. i think a set of Black Corian grips fitted would be fine on the Stainless gun, What do you guys think ? ...tj

There are tons of colors for the corian grips. For wood grips I prefer the lighter burl woods to the traditional. Then there are Bone and antler, I dont care for the stag grips personally. Also acrylic stabilized woods. Not to mention all the Micartas paper and linen. All time favorite are some type of sheep horn.

I don’t like flashy grips on anything. Therefore, those wild red, blue and green stabilized woods and laminates, as well as older mother of pearl grips never appealed to me. I do like ivory, but with all the legalities surrounding them, i never really entertained buying a set. An ivory micarta wouldn’t be bad. Corian is ok. What i really like is ramshorn and wood, namely walnut, holly, and ebony. There are others that i think are very pretty, such as rosewood and bocote, but i share your classic styling opinion and stick with classic wood.

Those would be great on my .327,bisley ! a little thicker than the factory too, and that is a fine revolver there ! I could see one of those in my future, but i have to get the ones in my safe set up to my satisfaction before i buy something new !

Personally, I would not put Corian grips on any revolver used in harsh situations. I made and sold Ruger grips for over ten years and I made a few grips from Corian, but I always gave this warning. Corian is a counter top material. It's made to be used in 1/2" thickness on a flat surface. If you make gun grips out of it, of course, it's going to be a lot narrower in places. With Corian, that subjects it to breaking. Corian will break or chip if it is hit with anything or dropped. It does make beautiful grips but it is just not a strong material. In place of black Corian, I would much rather use black Micarta. Micarta is the toughest material that I can think of unless you used steel or aluminum. It's easy to work, requires no external finish on it and can be buffed to a high gloss or a satin finish.
Below is a pic of two sets of Bisley grips I made for a customer. Below that is a set of white Corian gunfighter style grips I made for another customer.

I definitely like that 44 ! Me too. Got one just like it recently and it would sure look good with a set of those White Micarta grips! Nothing against that lovely Walnut, but Caryc's grips are darn nice!

That Cary guy is awesome... I would love to own an example of his work... lately I've got a growing collection of grips from Zane at LSCG... & I am liking the fancier wood, & horn grips I've gotten from him... these Alaskan Dall Sheep grips should be here this week, & go on a case colored Bisley centerfire Single Six Spalted Buckeye Burl on a 40 caliber Buckeye Blackhawk with 4 cylinders ( 10mm, 38-40, 10mm Magnum, 401 Powermag ) Speaking of spalted... here are some spalted inserts for the new GP-100 Compact grips, on my Clements customized 10mm Rimmed Walnut Burl on my 480 Super Blackhawk These aren't from Zane, so the fit isn't as nice, but checkered buffalo horn on my 45 Colt Snubbie Walnut on my custom brass lightning grip framed 45 Colt Montados Some more rams horn ( I think Merino ) on my flat top 44 special These are stabilized bone, on my custom 476 WTH Blackhawk & really there is a place for rubber... love these factory grips on my 480 Ruger Alaskan Factory Black Micarta Bisley grips on my BRF 500 JRH ... & BTW... in my Avatar, those are a set of Vintage medallion pearl S&W grips, on a refinished S&W #2 revolver

BTW #2... this is what my BFR looked like from the factory, but sighting in off the bench, on a cold morning caused the white grips to crack around the locating pin... where it cracked, there was no evidence of any fibers, so I don't think those were micarta, like the black grips are listed... so far no issues with the black grips I do have a stag set of grips as well... I'm a little picky on those... to me, they need just the right amount of bark... these bought used from Craig here on this site are just right IMO, they are supposed to be Ken Driskill... lower left side in this picture a custom 5 shot 50 A.E. Super Blackhawk

All nice grips, I especially like the first two sets, and those on the FT. Thanks for sharing!
I really need to find a set for my SS FT. The factory black grips are the worst fitting I've ever had. The grip frame itself is different than any other mid frame I have so a custom set is required. A friend gave me a real nice piece of wood that I may try to fashion a set out of.
Dang, your opossums really take some killing!
