Go contender, you won't regret it. 357 Max, 7-30 Waters, if 10" barrel 30 Herrett, 357 Herrett, or 44 Mag Large game are big targets but optics help.

I would do a 10” barreled magnum research BFR in .454 casual. Large selection of bullets. If I could get on in .41 mag I would say do that

There are a lot of the specialty pistols that can easily hit pop cans at 250 yds & actually it takes a good rifle to shoot with one from a bench, many rifles won't keep up. The problem is bullets, you have to be careful on your bullet selection or you going to be basically shooting a solid at that distance if you stay with the heavier weights.
A number of years ago I killed a spike bullet elk with a Sierra 135 gr SSP from my Bullberry 15" 308. These light bullets were a bit on the hard side & at the distance, I think about 170 yds I shot through both lungs & he dropped at the shot. Shooting rifle weight bullets in pistol length barrels, sometimes can be an expansion problem when we try to stretch the distance, choose carefully.
The 6.5 caliber bullets are great because almost all of them are soft up to 140 grs so they work well even in the smaller caliber handguns.
