BEHLERT ADJUSTABLE REAR SIGHT FOR DAN WESSON/ RUGER #18 It looks like a bo-mar or poormans Bowen. Anyone know anything about them? I'm thinking of one for a replacement for the stock Ruger rear on a project I'm working on.

Didn't a guy on Ruger Forum say that the sight was for a Dan Wesson and not a Ruger?

Austin Behlert was a gunsmith from 1939 until the 90's. He passed away in 2005. I have a bit of history about him on our website if your interested. He designed replacement sights long before there was a Bowen sight and was a contemporary of Robert Korzeniewski. Bob was the Bo in Bo Mar. Not much about them I would classify as "poormans" as they are hearty well made sights with additional adjustment over S&W and other factory sights. He made them for DW SW and Rugers. He also made fixed sights for 1911. There is a guy selling several on ebay for arond $20. I have bought several from him. I was not aware the DW and Ruger are interchangeable.

That is good info, thanks Gary. How easy was it to clean up the used sights? -- Brian

The ones I got from the guy on ebay were new. He is in Pa. as was Behlert. I assume he bought out some of their stock when they ceased business.

Well I'm interested in them but the seller isn't big on answering questions about them. I did find out the sights on a large frame DW are totally different. But the small frame DW looks like it would work. I just don't want to buy it and be stuck with if it doesn't work on a Ruger like he "claims".

BTW I think the #18 is his inventory number. If you look at his ebay auctions they appear to be numbered.
For $19.95 I would take the chance. You should be able to get your money back from a DW owner. I have paid $100 for the SW version to replace a battered one on a 1911. Or if your not a gambler put the $20 towards a Bowen.

I bought one after seeing almost all of them were getting bid on. So I guess I will see if it works. If not it will go back on egay next week.

I received my BEHLERT sight today. It is not at all what I expected from the pics in the egay listing. It is new for one thing not used like listed. However it looks like it has a clearence issue between the sight and the "ears" on the frame around the sight assy. I I'll have to see how it works out.
