This is an 1874 Bridgeport rifle with some options. I bought it from Bill Goodman and called CSA and asked about it. It was one of John Schoffstall‘s personal guns he has built. It has fancy wood, checkering, cheek piece with shadow line, silver nose cap, 28 inch half round Standard weight barrel in .45-70, CSA midrange vernier sight and serial number 74-1500. I will take off the vernier sight off and use the barrel sights for hunting. I think the way this gun balances and handles is fantastic. If it shoots as good as it looks and feels it will be perfect. I have some paper patch rounds and some greasers loaded up to see what shoots best. Our deer season opens at the beginning of next month so I need to do it quickly. It is almost too pretty to hunt with but I will do it anyway. The first scratch always hurts the worst

What bullets do you have? I saw greasers and PP mentioned. Just curious which one's in particular. Are the PP patched to bore or groove?
I've been waiting on a 530 PP mold from BACO for a while now. They'll be patched to bore as I wipe between shots.
When was the rifle made? Wonder if it was built when they were still using Badger barrels. Your's is a nice rifle for sure.
I have one of their 85's built as a Sillywet rifle made in about 2002. It taught me how accurate cast bullets and Black Powder can be. I've always considered loading for these rifles as a graduate course in reloading. I suspect you've spent some time behind a casting pot with a mold in your hand?

It has a Badger barrel. The greasers will be the Lyman 457121 475 gr bullet. I will try out the Accurate 444500P and see how it works. It is a paper patch mold. Once I measure the bore I will order a KAL nose pour mold in the appropriate diameter. I like a semi flat meplat for a hunting bullet

Too bad Badger quit making their cut rifled barrels. More money to be made elsewhere it seemed.
Even though each barrel will be an individual, as much research as I could do revealed that the 45 cal Badger's tend to run dead on what they are listed as. Mine ended up @ .450" and .458". Mine is a 32" so that was a long way to tap that sinker. With GG, I really didn't care what it measured, but when I ordered my BACO mold, I needed to know. I bought a couple full boxes of vintage cotton onion skin paper and needed it to fit.
I've put more than a few thousand GG down my Badger barrel and it will always put a smile on my face. I hate to think of how many puffs of air I've sent down it with the blow tube. Looking forward to PPing it. My 40/65 Hepburn has shot more consistently with PP than GG bullets, but I don't see how it will be possible with my 45/70.
Gotta admit that a loaded PP round sure looks sexy.
Good luck with your new toy! Man, having hobbies is expensive ain't it!
