BFR ERH

My BFR ERH only kicks the empties out 1/2 to 3/4ths an inch: If you don't rap 'em right smart they can be a pain to pry free. Magnum Research would only say the ejector wasn't designed to fully eject the spent ca'tridges, which I thought was odd. I noticed the spring piles up and limits at least a half inch of rod travel, and after I saw what Alan Harton did with the FA snubbie Ejector, I'm thinking shorten the spring and perhaps the basepin might be trimmed a hair to gain a little more distance. Haven't taken the housing off yet, but has anyone already solved this problem with their long frame, and if so, what was your approach? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mostly, I'm wondering if shortening and stretching the spring would allow the ejector to travel rearward under recoil?

Ive never been bothered by the BFRs but my X-frames star seems to jump over the rims every so offen and that is real pain.

May not be as easy to modify as you think.. Isn't that EJH glued to the barrel?

As I said, I haven't attempted removal... GLUED? It seemed to me there was a screw, but I didn't give it more than a cursory glance and won't be able to lay hands on it til sunday. Now thats gonna bug me. Seriously...GLUED? (It isn't a form fitting unit: just looks like a length of steel tubing.) Glued? Naw... REALLY?

yep, glued.
I used an end cutting nippers to pop mine off when I changed my basepin on my D-max BFR. whatever adhesive they use has great shear strength ( I couldnt knock it off with a hammer), but significantly less tension strength.
If you decide to modify, consider getting a new spring rather than cutting and stretching yours. or, have a custom ERH built that runs the full length of your barrel with a custom spring. The BFR ERH is a really simple part compared to a Ruger/Colt/FA.

I don't know about the JT models, but the DM BFR's had what appears to be LocTite green retaining compound undet the ERH. It is tough as hell! The ERH can be easily removed with heat. I used a propane torch.

Yep... glued shut tighter than a baby bulls butt in fly season. I guess I'll look into gettin a spare spring from Magnum research BEFORE I get started.... Thanks for the advice. So the short ejector stroke doesn't bother anybody but me?
