Standard Ruger bearcat adjustable rear sight blade. Now what width ,standard or narrower for the front sight. Older eyes with progressive glasses. I know it’s a individual thing ,but is there a rule of thumb?

Yep. Personally, I don't like too much light on either side of the front sight, so standard works for me. That's about .125" on Blackhawks and FAs. I forget what standard is on Vaqueros, but I like it. Let your eyes tell you.

If you could try several then decide as Mr. Taffin suggests, could be the best method.

I like mine narrowed to .100" so I have some light one each side of the front sight, makes it much easier for me. Remember also that different barrel lengths make a difference, a longer barrel might be just fine with a .125" front sight bu a shorter barrel, say 4 58's will easily fill the entire rear notch. So, as mentioned it's a personal thing. Me, I have to have some daylight on each side.

I just spoke with Fermin, truly a stand up guy, as I already knew ,as he volunteered to pin gauge my cylinders for free ! Which he did! Firstly if anyone is the market for a adjustable sighted bearcat front sight ,he has 4 left ready to go! Back orders are welcome after that! I been asking questions on the width of the front blade , as usual different widths work with different people. He recommended shooting the factory blade and see if I’m wide right or left. If there’s a issue he has sights with narrower widths. Best part is that you can go down in increments. Oder a specific width and if that’s still not right , 4 bucks and he will send exchange for the next width! Even if the factory sight width is correct ,his front sight with the deep serration will immensely improve your sight picture!

As my own experiment on sight width, I bought four widths from Fermin for a single six/seven. They start at .085 and go to .125. Different barrel lengths, different rear blades, and your eyes affect your sight picture. I need a little more light on each side was my final conclusion. Fermin is a great guy to deal with.

Another thing I have discovered working with my Gentleman Shooters who are well past able to blow all the candles out on their birthday cake is that the more coarse serrations (30 LPI) seem to accent or enhance the shadow effect of their sight picture a bit more.
I can’t express in words how much fun it is working with this generation of shooters who are so happy to be able to see their sights again. Just chatting with them and getting to know them is quite a eye opener!! Talk about been there and done that!
If you want to get your Dad or Grandpa off the sofa and out from in front of the TV send him my way. I can always add another senior to my preferred client list any day!
