Well I took the 500 JRH to the range today. I wussed out and put the factory rubber grips on for the first round. I have to say, the Buffalo Bore 440 grain mild loads were fairly pleasant to shoot and extremely accurate. Similar to heavy 45 Colt loads in my Blackhawk. The 375 grain full house loads were stiff but not as bad as I had built up in my mind. I would say slightly heavier recoil than heavy loads in my 629 Mountain Gun. I’ve got 100 pieces of 500 S&W brass cut and ready to start loading some “everyday” ammo. I think I’m really going to like this gun.

Well, I finally got my reloading equipment out of mothballs, built a new reloading bench (gave my old one to my brother when I moved 3yrs ago) and set about to load my first batch of 500 JRH. Going for some moderate loads I used 10 grains of W231 and some 440 grain cast bullets. This should be close to the Buffalo Bore “light” loads. I have some 370 gr cast bullets to try too. The Cape Buffalo here in North Georgia are fairly small so these loads should be adequate 🙂
