I finally found a Winchester 71 I could afford! I have had a couple of Browning repos but this is my first real one. I am going to send it off to Bobby Tyler and have him fill in the holes from the side mount, color case the receiver and forend cap and blue the barrel. I need to find an all steel Lyman 66 to put on it. Any other suggestions?

Glass bed the forend and buttstock. Ask him for a good trigger.

A Weatherby scope on a .348! I mean seriously?? Should consider a recoil pad of course, these kick pretty good. Hope you have some brass, its a bit scarce.

I thought the steel butt on my 71 was going to knock the crap out of me, but it’s actually quite unnoticeable. I’d recommend a vintage bolt peep over the Lyman, it keeps the lines clean and sides smoother for carrying in the hand, mine shoots great.

That was definitely a strange scope choice.

No long colt, compared to 350’s at 1950fps, from a 4570, or 465’s at 1900fps from a 50 Alaskan,........yeah 200gr bullets at 2500fps were not really noticeable. I’d rather shoot them all day than either of the other two, and they had kickeez pads mounted on them. Best comparison I can think of was normal 30-30 kind of recoil.
BTW, what would a gallery load from 348win. Look like???

Be that as it may, the actual recoil of a .348 far exceeds that of a .30-30. Sure others kick more, not the point though. The .348 has a hefty recoil. Shoot some 250's at 2350 and tell me it doesn't kick. Gallery load would be like a .30-30 load. One can argue all day about felt recoil, it means different things to different people, but in foot poundage it is what it is. I have heard a lot of goofy things in my life but never heard anyone say .348's recoil is "unnoticeable". It isn't horrendous, but its noticeable.

Hornady too I see. The situation has improved, though I still prefer Win, but its hard to find.

Good looking lever gun... I'll add one to my set one day.
