First if this is the wrong place for this I apologize was trying to figure out what sub section I should place this in.
So i’m looking for a gun rig for my custom Gallagher 44 mag and was looking for. Some input and some suggestions for where to find the rig. The it will not be used for SASS it will just for being out on the ranch or hunting. So I know I want to run a separate gun belt with no Ammo loops i’ll Use Ammo slides for maximum versatility. i’m Wondering whether I go 2.5” or 3”, any thoughts? Also i’m Seeing people either have a taper at the buckle area or there it’s tsper but it overlaps the standard 2.5-3” belt, any thoughts on whether there are any advantages besides personal preference?
the next big question is where to buy the rig, I have seen some of the beautiful rigs that people like mike Barnetti make but many of these guys aren’t accepting new custom orders or they are a year out. Any suggestions on some leather makers that have a 6 mo or less wait?
Thanks for for your help, all the info/pictures on this board are the reasons I got into single actions recently so to everyone who posts a lot of share their knowledge and toys thanks on behalf of the many readers!

I am a Ringler Leather fan. He makes a Linebaugh design holster and a Tom Threepersons holster. His backlog is about 8 weeks.. I have two of his Wyoming combination holsters. ringlercustomleather.com/Curtis

I WOULD GO WITH A 2.5 vs A 3 INCH WIDE BELT, A LOT OF HOLSTERS WILL FIT ON A 2.5 INCHER BUT NOT A 3 INCHER. EL PASO SADDLERY MAKES GOOD BELTS AND HOLSTERS, CHECK THEIR WEBSITE. THIER TOM THREEPERSONS AND AUSTIN HOLSTERS ARE VERY PRACTICAL AND PRETTY, BUT MAKE SURE IT WILL FIT ON THE BELT YOU DECIDE ON, THE AUSTIN BEING MORE VERSATILE THAN THE THREEPERSONS RE BELT WIDTH. MAKE SURE THE REVOLVER SIGHT SITS OUTSIDE THE HOLSTER OR ELSE YOU MAY SUFFER INVOLUNTARY SIGHT DEPRESSION/CHANGE OF POI. MOST OF MY GUNBELTS DO NOT HAVE TAPERED ENDS, BUT NOT SURE IT MATTERS FUNCTION WISE.

Groo here As your gun is custom,, I would first see if a commercial maker has one to fit. If non standard, Aka barrel ,sights cylinder, etc , a custom is in order. I have many but the newist is from Lobo. Mark seems most skilled,, look at the Tommy Threeperson style...

Tapered and Ranger style are the two main types of gunbelts. Not all holster makers offer holsters for all widths of gunbelts, so make certain that what you want is compatible, first. The tapered gunbelts make bending over easier than the Ranger style. Depending on my budget and desires, I would suggest Mike Barranti, Rob Leahy at Simply Rugged (he offers more than what is on his website - call), El Paso Saddlery, and there are several others offering excellent quality work. I recently ordered a Black Powder style belt from EPS (with no cartridge loops), and was quoted 6-8 weeks turnaround. I would stress checking on availability of exactly what you want, and expected delivery time when shopping. EPS was not my first choice - my first choice couldn't be troubled to even begin on my project for several months, my second choice never responded to several inquiries (must have too much money), so EPS got the order.

Mr. Trevor, Lobo Gunleather is a quality product, and reasonably economical as compared to some. Last I checked their backlog was not beyond reason. I prefer a tapered gun belt, as they seem to allow extra room for my pants belt buckle. One down side is you cannot punch extra holes if you lose some wait or just want a tighter fit after the belt stretches.
