Do you think they shipped in a cardboard box in 1906?
A cardboard box without a single oil or grease stain....

Good chance you are correct with that one, eskimo and cubrock! And that leads me right back to the "NR" as a concern! I know everyone has to start somewhere...been there too! But for your first "NR" sale to be this? Just don't think so...this should be at a respected and known auction house, right?

I have seen some discussion on the Colt Forum about this gun if I am not mistaken. Those guys really know their stuff and not much gets past them. There is so much that goes into an unmolested Colt SAA and so many that just due to age have been modified or had parts swapped that it is tough to know what is what. That is why I stay out of the Colt field. I'm too old to learn all the nuances from scratch so I'll stick to the narrow fields in which I feel comfortable.

It gets better. He sold it earlier in the month and it closed at under $4300. It was then relisted. Either the buyer didn't take it, or the high bidder was a shill and the seller didn't get what he wanted. That is when he relisted it for $25K.

***** With not the slightest pretense to knowledge of old Colts, Nevertheless I have an artist’s memory of various Colts at the Connecticut State Library and elsewhere, and find a banality to the case carburizing on the frame. Granted photos supplied to pump this Peacemaker as “New in Box” are atrocious. And, as members observe, the box appears a fraud. Having also held a Sharps in its original wrapping, a rifled passed down through the family of a Sharps employee, and had a occasion to look over revolvers in the Smith & Wesson collection in Springfield and rifles in the Winchester collection in New Haven with case carburizing, there is a PRESENCE of profound BEAUTY which unites these arms in aesthetics and the purpose of surface hardening. Regarding shill, I have often wondered if a “friend” of the seller bids up an item as you are bidding on it also. Is there anyway to prove this?

Regarding shill, I have often wondered if a “friend” of the seller bids up an item as you are bidding on it also. Is there anyway to prove this? Wouldn't be able to tell 100%. Could only speculate on consistency of someone specifically bidding on the weapon(s) of the same buyer name for the same seller name. Otherwise, there's nothing concrete enough to prove that a friend is/was/could be pumping it up for him.

I feel like the guy who has ended up with that gun could a write a better description and take better pictures. ... and write at least one correct sentence. There are too many “alarm bells” in this posting for my taste (not to mention the price tag).
