Been there a bunch of times and it never gets old. Someone did point out the irony of a stuffed Elmer along with all of his trophy's. I purchased my USFA from Cabelas and let them know it was because of that display being there. I think he would be happier if we just adjourned to the range. 44 specials and mags all . It could happen !

I got to go there April 16th. Let me tell you, if seeing the original No. 5 in person doesn't make your eyes just a little bit watery, I really have to feel sorry for you...

I think we ought to all consider converging on Boise, Idaho and plan on meeting at the Elmer Keith Museum at 10:00 a.m. every March 8 (to commemorate the old man's birthday in 1899). We could have a brief greeting at Cabelas, look over the Keith memorabilia, then adjourn for strong spirits and cigars. Somehow I think Elmer would approve. After all, they make pilgrimages to Mecca don't they? That's one place I would sure travel to see.

Dumb question......... To JT or anyone else that can answer. I noticed the Rugers are serial #15. Nothing that I saw in the museum said why. I know that I should know the answer, but I don't.

I believe that it was his " subscription number " Certain good friends and customers of Bill Rugers' were allowed to have all of the models with the same serial number.

Every October on the weekend closest to Teddy Roosevelt's birthday, there has been a gathering at the NRA's Raton, New Mexico site by people who enjoyed the teaching, training, and writings of Jeff Cooper.
We visit, tell stories, recite prose and poetry associated with both Teddy Roosevelt and Jeff Cooper and their lifestyles.
And we shoot a whole bunch -- rifles, pistols, and shotguns.
Have you ever shot double-traps with a bolt action rifle ?
People travel from Alaska, Florida, Europe, and Africa to associate.
The same thing could be done in Elmer Keith's memory.
While Elmer's birthday in March would be a natural date, might want to have it in the summer to attract more folks and to have better weather for shooting. There's rumors that there's wind and cold in Idaho in March. I have still snow on my place now.

Dumb question......... To JT or anyone else that can answer. I noticed the Rugers are serial #15. Nothing that I saw in the museum said why. I know that I should know the answer, but I don't. Yes, Elmer received many s/n 15 Rugers. Unfortunately some have been sold. The Single-Six surfaced a few years ago and sold for something like $20K! Note that Elmer didn't like the curved trigger that Ruger made. He also had a Gun Re-blue Co. loading gate fitted to the gun. This next image is of Elmer holding a 4-5/8" .41 Magnum. I've yet to see the exhibit and really need to get over there! I'm a Keith Fan and a Die Hard Ruger Collector and would love to see the exhibit. One question to those who have seen the exhibit. Could you post what s/n 15 Rugers were exhibited? Keith did NOT get the s/n 15 .44 Flattop. It's setting in a Casino in Sparks, NV and is engraved and inlaid with gold and silver. It's labeled as a "Elvis Gun" I don't believe he received the s/n 15 Super Blackhawk either since he received the Engraved Super with carved Ivory Grips. Thanks for any info! Carl
