If anyone here is ever in the Boise, ID area, you MUST go to the Cabela's and check it out. I had some time off last week, and I made the 600 mile trip from northern CA just to see it.

Mr. Taffin had a big hand in that. He's written about it in the past. I'd like to see it myself...

Steve, You're certainly right about that. Last year I flew from Charlotte to L.A. to Boise and back to San Francisco, then Charlotte for the visit. It was worth the 6000 mile trip and every aggravating moment in the airports !

It's on my "someday" list. I would love to get to see it and I plan on seeing it "someday".

For some reason, I can't make those links work for me when I change from Firefox to Explorer...
Here's how to find the museum manually:
go to Cabelas.com, then click on the "retail stores" tab. It's the fourth green tab over from the right at the top of the page.
Select the Boise location.
Once on the Boise retail location page, the link to the Elmer Keith museum is visible as a box on the right of the page, about halfway down. There are seven photographs, some of which I recall from Taffin's article in AH.

YES IT WAS HIS "PERSONAL" GUN EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SENT AFTER HE HAD A PASSED. BILL RUGER SENT ONE OF EACH NEW GUN TO SPECIAL FRIENDS LIKE ELMER, HAL SWIGGETT, AND SKEETER. YOU ARE THE FIRST TO NOTICE!!

I think we ought to all consider converging on Boise, Idaho and plan on meeting at the Elmer Keith Museum at 10:00 a.m. every March 8 (to commemorate the old man's birthday in 1899). We could have a brief greeting at Cabelas, look over the Keith memorabilia, then adjourn for strong spirits and cigars. Somehow I think Elmer would approve.
After all, they make pilgrimages to Mecca don't they?
