Anybody have any experience?
I shipped a varmint rifle and it showed up with the stock cracked. Buyer says no sign of damage to the box.
I'm guessing it got dropped on it's butt in the box and the inertia from that heavy barrel cracked it.
The gun was insured.
Is there any hope of getting his/my $$.
In this case who takes responsibility, me or the seller?
I know he's gonna' want his money back.
I'm about sick to my stomach.
What a mess....

Ive had this issue myself. Did the buyer take pics of the package before he opened it? Did you take pics of you packaging it?

The person who shipped files the claim. Get some pictures, and you can file through the usps website. Find somewhere that sells the stock - they ask for proof of value. I added a screen shot of the website selling the item when I had to make a claim. It will take at least a couple weeks to go through. Good Luck.

If you don't have pictures of the packaging or a damaged box...good luck getting them to pay? They always deny claims and site improper packaging, in my experience. Been through it a dozen or so times.

I bought 8 lbs of pewter ingots from a guy on cast boolits, and just recieved an empty box. Inside the box was a bag that said the box was damaged in shipping.

Recently had a rifle show up at my dealer with muzzle and butt plate damage. Shipping carton was perfect, factory box inside showed where at some point, prior to shipping, the rifle went thru the end of it. Seller says rifle was was perfect when it left, my dealer says he didn't drop it, I asked. No real recourse other than effect repairs which I did, and move on. If there is no damage to the shipping container, it may be hard to make a claim.

I once bought a beautiful custom made longbow. The guy shipped it USPS insured. I missed delivery and went to the PO to pick it up as soon as I saw the slip. Got down there and the box was in terrible condition. There were actually tire marks on the box. I told the postal clerk, "It looks like it's been run over!" Her reply? "Sure does." Luckily, almost miraculously , there was no damage to the bow but they could have cared less. I had to pick up some tires once at a FED EX place and went in early in the morning to get them. All the trucks were backed up in the warehouse and they were loading them. I was about sick to my stomach the way they were handling those packages. It was like a contest to see how far they could throw them to get in the trucks. They knew damned well I was standing there watching and it made absolutely no difference.

Had FedEx crack the buttstock on a classic M71 I sent out a few weeks ago. Dealing with them is a real hoot! Good luck buddy!

USPS snapped the wrist on a Winchester 94 I sold to Bob. Box was perfect. I just gave him his money back and fixed it. I needed a 44 carbine anyway. Wow, lot of not good stories in a short time here.

So this is by best one.......
Sent 2 rifles by USPS Priority to two different locals.
Both boxes arrived on time but the guns had been removed and the boxes taped back up.
They paid in a hurry on those claims.
They didn't want me to inform law enforcement saying the USPS had their own enforcement folks. That sure didn't leave a good taste in my mouth...
Happened to be in late November when the "temporary force" was in full swing.
