I'm liking what I'm seeing with the big bore magnums using a wide flat nose copper bullet... is there anything similar out there, suitable for the 357 Magnum or 357 Maximum??? a little digging turned up this one... anyone played with these in a 357 Maximum??? cuttingedgebullets.com/357-165gr-handgun-solidI have a 6" barrel Stainless Dan Wesson in 357 Maximum ( not positive of the factory twist rate right now ) but wondering if these wouldn't make a great bullet for use in that Maximum???

Well, in Lehigh they'd be "controlled fracturing" or "extreme penetrator (phillips head tip)". I'll need to see and hear some more feed back on those screw driver tips before I bite, I guess.

CEB has a solid FN. Your call as to if it rates the WFN moniker.

I had a link in my 1st post to Cutting Edge Bullets ( CEB ) 165 grain is a pretty long bullet... they say they have required twist rates listed, but not for that bullet...

My best guess from the internet is the 357 Maximum Dan Wessons had a 1 in 18" twist rate... I figured I'd wait to contact Cutting Edge, until I was sure what my twist rate was... for a Monson 6" 357 Maximum...

Not long after changed to 1:16”. The stainless M740 .357 Maximum came with 1:18-3/$” twist, same twist used on the M-15 .357 Mag. (Stainless DWA’s have chrome-moly barrels.) 1:14 stabilizes Hornady .358 200 grain Spire Point. 1:16 stabilizes Hornady .358 200 grain Round Nose, but not 200 Spire Point. David Bradshaw

GS Custom makes awesome mono metal bullets. But I don't know if they do for hand guns. They started up in South Africa so handguns were pretty much verboiten. Most excellent bullets tho. If I remember right, they moved to Michagan.

Barnes Busters start at 44.. no 475 offering from them either, sigh.. Both CEB and LeHigh manufacture flat-nosed solids in .475 -- the CEB weighs 340 grains and the LeHigh 330 grains. I have used both on really big game and they work well.

Thank You MR. Bradshaw... have you ever shot a solid copper in the max??? as hunting bullet for deep penetration, what are your thoughts of a bullet of this type??? ***** Have not shot solid copper in the Maximum. 160 grains is relatively light, less dense therefore longer than lead. Your gun may come down with gout from shooting such rich bullets! The first game to fall to the .357 Maximum (prototype SRM-4), a buck whitetail, fell to Hornady .357 158 JHP mousing along at 1,956 fps. The deer did not drop in its tracks, it was running, but folded to the lung shot in about twenty or thirty paces. The solid copper might have the same or similar effect. I would think it would poke on through, but you never know. Pressure should not be a problem in any correctly made Maximum revolver. I limit the Maximum to SLOW powders only. This much we do know: a .357 Maximum drives 300 to 500 fps faster than a .357 Magnum. Of course velocities vary with the gun, and pressure tolerance varies greatly between different model revolvers. In copper, I would incline toward a hollow point for deer or pigs. before heading out, it wouldn’t hurt to test against 7 or 10 one-gallon water jugs (lined up). David Bradshaw

Yup. Need to order more of the Lehigh's for my 480's. Need to start amping up that loading now that there is a chrono here. Are there any other players, mkaing these type bullets ? In .357 bore ? If stuck with trying the screw driver tip ones..how do they really do in flesh and bone ?
