I think Ruger once made a SBH with a 9.5" barrel. Is this still offered?
The example I saw had the front sight attached bu a screw. Was (is) this standard?
Thanks,

RENE doesn't list a 9.5 inch SBH. Does say there were two 10.5 inch NM SBHs... One a 10.5 tapered barrel with a ramp front sight the other with a 10.5 bull barrel and a "hooked" front sight.. I think the "hooked sight" was screwed on the gun...

I've never heard of 9.5 SBH. The bull barrel front sight is screwed on. I know I have my 10.5 SBH scattered all over my bench right now. That front sight is really on there!

I thought maybe someone had "fixed" it. Barrel doesn't looked tapered. Got some great Hogue grips.... Anything special about these? Thanks to both for the response. Axe did I remember you had one (or a "set") with different sights??

No 10.5 inch SBH here.... Yet! I do need at least one of each variation for my "set." Currently my only long barrel Ruger revolver is a FT 357....

The rear blade on these guns has a very narrow cut in it compared to standard Ruger adj. sights. They also have a 5" ejector rod housing like those used on the 357 maximum SRM and the newer hunter models (although aluminum not stainless). Otherwise they are the same gun from the frame down to the grip frame.

As stated in the above replies, you have found the "Silhouette" model. I had one and it was a great shooter! It was very easy to shoot since the "bull barrel" results in a heavy, recoil reducing .44 mag. I also had the earlier rendition, the "tapered barrel" version. I made an "undercut" front sight blade for it and sold the bull barrel example. I "worked over" the lockwork a bit and this one is also a very good shooter! Ruger made 10 inch barreled .44 Flattops back in late '59 through early '62, however most of them are tucked away in some ol' Ruger Collector's safe.... Carl

Thanks, Carl.
I was looking at one offered for sale at a reasonable price. Doesn't seem to have been abused although several screws have been turned and generally boogered up. I figured it'd make a good shooter.

I had been told earlier that they didn't start making the long barrels until 1978(?), when IHMSA was going strong. Man, I'd love to find one of those old Flattops one day. Here's my 1980 tapered barrel SBH, with the ramp front sight. And the same thing, in an IHMSA numbered edition.

I always keep a stash of Ruger grip frame and lockwork screws/pins on hand for such situations!
Enjoy!
Charger Fan, your IHMSA Super is NICE! I've seen a couple of those that were Double Cased.

Man, I'd love to find one of those old Flattops one day. I got lucky and found a "dog" and gave it some new life. I fitted a New Model Super grip frame, after reshaping the trigger guard, and the ol' Lett Grips work pretty good. I also did a "homeboy" Bisley hammer conversion.... Carl
