Looks like hard chrome. Both good catches!

That Colt is something special. It could be a brushed nickle. Bill

For $300, I think you got a great deal.

I wouldn't have passed up that nickel M25 either! Good score!

Nice on both accounts...I don't think one can ever go wrong with a good 38 Special..

Love that Colt Boxhead. Those are one of my ALL TIME favorite handguns to look at,.....specifically because of the thinnish top strap and sights low to the bore.

Agree, that top strap is what did it for me. Well, the front sight kind of helped too. Best of all my youngest son really enjoys plinking with the 38 Special. A great learning caliber for the youngsters in my view.

Did a bit of clean up on the nickel with Mothers Chrome Polish, fitted a blued front site, set the cylinder and crane end shake, fitted a Power oversized cylinder latch, installed new springs and threw on a new set of grips. I found a near new El Paso Saddlery thumbreak holster in my holster box that I picked up cheap from the "leather barrel" at Collectors Firearms in Houston a few years ago (I new I'd have a need for it someday;D). All in all, I am pleased with the package. Weather permitting here in the Hill Coutry I plan to take it out on Wednesday.

boxhead, Congrats on the great guns!! That 25-5 looks so nice in the new stocks!! I wish I had a 4" 25-5!!
Have you checked the cylinder throats yet? My 6" is .452 and my 8 3/8" gun measures .455
It took a little bit of head scratching (and a fair amount of lead cleaning) before I realized I had one of the "large throat-ed" guns! I picked up some of the larger diameter Remington swagged bullets and it never leaded again.
