You old stinky gas guys remember the 300 Whisper. You know... the cartridge that became the 300 Blackout. Developed to run suppressed out of the AR platform JD kept it a proprietary SSK cartridge. I understand that if you made anything 300 Whisper you paid royalties to SSK. You'll hear negativity about the BO because it is simply a SAAMI Whisper. Sanity check... Redding made 300 Whisper dies and just didn't call them "300 Whisper." Based on the 221 Fireball case the non SSK The name was 30/221  |

Non Whisper guns were built too. Mine was built in the mid 90s. XP-100, Shilen 15 inch 7 twist barrel, H&S Stock, currently wears a 6-24 B&L.... Marking says 30/221  |

Had not shot it in a long time.... Took it to work. We only have 25 yards. The exhaust fans make the targets move side to side constantly just a little. Stopped at 5 rounds...  |

Back in the day we made brass from 223/556... Pretty simple but not as simple as picking up properly head stamped brass off the floor these days.  |

I’ve noticed someone making a rimmed version from 357 Maximum cases,.....same basic exterior dimensions just rimmed. It’s interesting!!!
Looks like it’ll fit a standard Ruger Blackhawk with 110rn bullets

I WOULDN'T TOUCH A BLACKOUT AND SEVERAL GUNSMITHS WHO ARE ALSO FRIENDS OF JD's WON'T WORK ON THEM. |

Marking says 30/221 Looks like a metallic maroon paint job on H-S Precision Fiberthane center-grip stock with original aluminum bedding block. An arrangement some custom rifle makers said wasn’t accurate, propaganda proved wrong by IHMSA silhouette shooters. Very early silhouetters necked up the .221 Remington Fireball. You couldn’t wrap more accuracy in less weight than the H-S Precision center-grip. David Bradshaw |

I've had a few 300 Whispers, a couple 300/221's, a 300-221. a couple 300 Fireballs and a few 300 Blackouts.
Break actions, bolt actions and semi auto.
Almost had a Ruger Blackhawk in it too. Talked with JD (and another gunsmith) about rechambering a 30 carbine to it. Stubby bullets and probably special loads... little to be gained, so I let the idea go.

30 cal on a Blackhawk? Gary Reeder's 300 GNR is your cartridge. Think an improved 30 Herrett.. A simple rechamber. Gary has dies and loading data too.

Garys 321 Gnr is the 357 mag necked down to 308. David White also can cut a rim counter bore in Tc Encore, contender or any single shot 300 Blk / whisper to allow the use of necked down 357 mag , 360 dan wesson brass and still be able to use Blackout or whisper ammo.
