In the May 1993 issue of Guns & Ammo, Ross Seyfried wrote an article on the then relatively new Dakota Arms Company. At that time I was a poor college student but even then, my tastes in firearms far outpaced my earning capabilities. Like many of you, Mr. Seyfried was, and is, a tremendous influence on my shooting interests and it was his article in that issue of G&A that put me on the path towards a Dakota Model 10, a rifle he once described as "good enough to be old". Fast forward 25 years and I am the proud owner of one of these fine rifles in 270 Win. It's been pretty cold here so I've only managed to put 20 rounds through it so far but it's definitely a shooter!

Congratulations on acquiring such a fine rifle, and in .270. I have one in 7X57. In the game of having to choose only one, the 10 would be my choice. It is a rifle that just begs to be carried and shot. Enjoy...

Congratulations. This is the first I've heard of this rifle. Thanks for the education.

I love hunting with single shot rifles when I choose to use a rifle. I have thought about a Model 10 for years but I am afraid if I bought one my Model B-78 in 7 Mag I inherited from my father would do it's darndest to beat it up and throw it out of the safe! I would love to have one in 7mm-08 regardless and if I move a couple more revolvers I think I might take the plunge.

I still have a M10 as well. I think it’s one of the best feeling rifles I own. I haven’t shot it in years. Beautiful guns! Mine is chambered in 300 Dakota and is exceptionally accurate as is my other Dakotas so I bet you’ll be thrilled with your new one. Congrats!!

Wow, they are stunning examples of single shot perfection. I remember that artical, and others over the years, the key word here is the “years”, and my direction has changed. So, when I do get one of these, not if, it will not be a big game rifle and end up on the rack becoming a safe queen. A walking varminter in .223 would get taken everywhere, shot and used year around. I hope you enjoy it Ryan, use it lots, as posted by robrcg, “ it begs to be carried “.

There's no safe queens at my house...but some do have to sit longer than others at times . This rifle will travel to Montana with me in the fall for deer and will see some limited use here in Maine as well. Most guns in my collection have very specific purposes and this one is no different. In the meantime it will get shot...a lot!

They're wonderful rifles.
Honestly, I like my Blaser K-95 better but that's me.
Be DAMNED sure you don't dry fire it!
Don't know if you know this or not.
I'm not a tellin' how I know this...

Believe they changed the firing pin in the not to distant past. Not unbreakable, but supposedly less breakable.

I passed on one in 250 Savage for 2500 dollars years ago at a gun show, with a scope no less. Kick, kick

Should have mentioned it earlier, but that's a great looking rifle! Don't know that I've handled too many rifles that handle as well as a model 10. Actually had a chance to buy the 33 G&A model 76 that Ross is holding in that article. Talk about kicking yourself.
