I was able to travel to eastern Washington to spend Thanksgiving with my brothers family for the first time in many years and we had a ball. He is a retired Assistant Police Chief who in retirement took over as the head pastor at their church along with being a part owner in a thriving UPS store. WAYYYY too busy for me but he thrives on situations like this as is doing well. While there I helped him list his first gun for sale on GB and to his surprise, the AR he listed sold in less than a day.
After we finished the process of listing the AR he opened his safe and pulled out a Browning labeled older pistol rug and unzipped it. Inside was a beautiful Belgium made Browning Hi-Power complete with the original owners manual which had the date of purchase to the original owner as 1960. I knew he had not inherited this gun from our father so I asked him the story and it seems that when he was an LEO he spearheaded the construction of a brand new police headquarters. He said that one of the older officers he had helping him was also somewhat of a gun guy and they got to be pretty good friends. This friend told Randy about this Hi-Power he had and a little of the back history on it. A year or two ago that gentleman passed away and when his son and wife were going through his things they unzipped the Hi-Powers gun run and inside was a note stating that it was to be given to my brother!
They called Randy ans asked him to come over to the house and when he arrived they presented it to him with the explanation that it was a gift to him. Needless to say Randy was shocked but he is smarter than me in that he learned to be a gracious receiver when the right situation arose.
It is a beautiful gun and in wonderful condition and I'm not even sure if it has been fired. I told him that Browning stopped making the Hi-Power recently and that prices for nice examples like his have been going up from what I have heard. Not sure what he will do with it now that he knows how to list on GB but I do have to admit it is very nice and trim gun compared to some 1911 style guns I have held.
