Just found out I'm moving to Rhode Island for work. I checked the hunting regs online, and I'm uncertain if handgun hunting is allowed? Anyone know?

Well, R.I. a relatively small state, not a far drive to states that may have better hunting and weapon options.

No offense meant... but I don't think of R.I. & Hunting in the same sentence... I've never been there, size seams an issue, but maybe a good percentage of it's small size is set aside for wilderness???

MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT YOU CAN HANDGUN HUNT IN DELEWARE, WHICH IS CLOSE BY. UP IN THAT PART OF THE WORLD YOU CAN GO AROUND THE BLOCK AND GO THRU 3 OR 4 STATES.

Hello:
I lived I RI for a short time. It is a tough state for some things. Handgun hunting is legal. I am friends with an RI game warden. One day we were at a club where we are members and the conversation on RI came up. I made a comment that I wished I could hunt with a handgun in RI for small game and varmints. Mike said, : Why can't you hunt with a handgun? " Now he is a full RI game warden. He told me the following:
1. You can hunt state land for small game and varmints with a handgun provided you follow state land restrictions. That being rimfire only. Also nothing over 22lr at night.
2. Private land, nothing over 22 caliber centerfire.
3. Only one gun in the field. So if you go handgun hunting you can't carry two guns at the same time.
4. Unless you have a concealed carry permit, it must be exposed and in the open.
You will have to take a test and obtain a blue card. Many gun shops are certified to give that class. It is basically a test you take on safety and RI law. Then you may buy a handgun and use it at the range or hunt if it meets the above guidelines.
Concealed carry is tough. It is up to local law enforcement. Where I lived I was quoted by a lawyer that the process would cost me 4000 dollars. It can also be restricted. I have a friend who has one in RI and he works at a gun shop. His only allows him to carry to and from work.
I wish you the best.
