Ok, picked one of these up yesterday at a deal I couldn't pass up. A friend turned me on to the deal and I left feeling low.
Price was dirt cheap, but not my kind of gun. Basically a friend helping anothers friend if that makes sense.
6" stainless with two magazines. Guess ill decide in time. Gun or boat anchor?
Any input on these greatly appreciated. My knowledge of them is none existing...

Just a couple things I can mention. First, I’d suggest wearing a ball cap until you figure out its ejection pattern. I’ve seen several different units chuck brass straight into your forehead and with enough oompf to make a small bleeder.
Second is springs. I have personally seen 3 DE handguns restored from jam-o-matic to reliable with a complete spring replacement. MRI recommends every 1000 cycles. Or they did. Not sure if that’s changed.
Have fun! They sure are fun

I have not owned one but my brother (Baba Looey on this forum) had a .44 Magnum for a while. His had a lot of jamming issues. But it was the most accurate .44 he had ever shot. He ended up selling it for other projects. But that's normal for him. He's on his 3rd GP100, if that gives you any idea on how he operates.

Have one in 44 just because I like 44s.

Many many moons ago an ex and I were in a pawn shop in deland on our way to bike week and they had a gold 50. She let Barbi hold it then me. The lady asked me "What does this shoot"? The ammo was arranged 22 to 50 so I pointed to the end of the line at the pretty Norma box and she took out a round and handed it to Barbi, then Barbi handed it to me. I'm on THIS side of the counter having just been handed a gun and a round of ammo. I woke up quick and set them down.

I gotta be honest... I have wanted a .50 AE Desert Eagle since I was about 11 years old (I'm 37 right now). And this thread is giving me GAS. For the uninitiated that means Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

If any of you Desert Eagle owners are interested, I have a chest rig for one made by a leather maker here inTexas,...grass burr leather. I bought it because my AutoMag also fit in it, I no longer own it so don’t need the rig.

I will second the comment of ball cap...I got a bloody crescent moon in the middle of my forehead.
Mine had mediocre accuracy; it put a variety of ammo 2"-4" high, & 2"-4" right (@25yds off bench)... enough for me to see this wouldn't be a target gun, and not worth trying to get sighted in.
Still, it's a must try.

I have a 50 AE. With an Ultra Dot it is the second most accurate handgun I own.

I had one and the best thing I did was buy a .44 barrel and mags for it. The .50 was mediocre for accuracy with factory stuff, I bought Starline cases and available bullets at time, tweaked dies for ultimate neck tension and played with all data could find. Was extremely disappointed! Not only was accuracy poor the cartridge never performed up to advertised specs either! The .44 barrel on other hand shot everything extremely well and delivered real ballistics that equaled what the 50 was barely doin. In later years I came to conclusion that the tapered case didn’t allow enough tension on slugs and that instead of 300-325 grains it should probably work better with 350-375grains. I don’t think there is enough case tension and weight resistance to the slow burning powders especially in the large amounts needed when restricted to .44 magnum preesures. I realize the factory ammo typically delivers advertised velocities But they tend to glue the slugs into case also.
Helped a friend develope loads for his FA m555 a few years back and we were tickled to death with cartridges performance then for accuracy although velocity still wasn’t great

I bought my first Desert Eagle, a brushed chrome 50 AE, in 2001. Paid $1104 delivered to F&S Gun Shop.I almost got rid of it because the grip is so huge.
I finally got used to it and became a fanatic, owning 14 Desert Eagles at one point.
They're a fascinating piece of engineering, requiring top level loads to function.
I still have my first one, but the coolest one I still have is a black chrome .41 Magnum. I bought it from CDNN, and sent it to Ford's for the refinishing.

I have an Automag 5 that shoots 50 A.E. & I love that gun, but it's a lot smaller than the "eagle"... ( lightest of the 3 autos designed to run the 50 A.E. ) only thing I can think of to add, is don't shoot cast bullets in a Desert Eagle... it's gas operated... my Automag likes the cast bullets oh... and to switch to 44 mag, you just need a barrel & a mag... the bolt face works for both the 50 A.E. & the 44 Magnum, by design...

Encore, sounds like you need to get 2-4 boxes of 50AE, have some fun at the range, scratch the itch, then pass on the good deal to Quick Draw here.

50s are the cheapest eagles, people buy them for the cool factor shoot it and sell them quick in my experience I've seen it alot. The owners manual says to use a weaver stance due to the ejection pattern. I want an original MK1 or early MK7 they actually have a slightly small grip frame better for my smaller hands. They only fit the 357,41,and 44 barrels except the last MK7s when they first came out with the 50ae's.
