I think in a Contender a 445 is a perfectly good 44 magnum with 445 as needed, and has the barrel length to make use of the round.
In a revolver, you're hauling around a lot of gun and without a longer barrel, tight BC gap, and a fast barrel (which is just luck of the draw) you might find yourself with an inconvenient 44 mag.
I take this as a testament to how good a round the 44 mag is and how of the 1.6 inch cases the 357 still stands out as arguably the best of the bunch.

Personally, I think it would gain as much as we might expect with good load data. I gain 150fps out of a 4 5/8" gun just by using the bottom crimp groove in the heavy (330-355gr) Beartooth bullets and stuffing it with H110. Which is basically what Ronnie is talking about with a 1.4" case. Some guns like the SRH have long cylinders and most bullets don't take advantage of that. I think bumping the pressure would also do wonders for it but we need modern data. If Hodgdon did for the .445 what they did for the .44Mag, we'd really have something. Unfortunately, Beartooth is now defunct and no one I know of is offering bullets that heavy.
