There's always that guy who goes either by choice or by circumstance some places where his equipment just can't fail or he might lose life or limb. Then there's just the guy who wants to have less to go wrong come game time. My basic rule has always been, if it can come loose, it will come loose. During my SWAT days I used to preach to the guys, there is no thing like a sure thing!
Here is a one piece rear sight that is intended to be screwed and red loctited into place and left there. The windage adjustments are via a dovetail front sight blade that is then pinned or screwed into place. You can file the front or the rear for elevation as well. But basically, you pick a load and you stick with it.
The more I shoot, the less I want to fool with loads. I find this is true even with my small bores. I shoot until I find the optimum load for my sixgun and then I tend to stick with that load for as long as I can. This is a prototype, for concept purposes only. It is intended to do a couple of things, first, to better fill in the rear sight mortise for more full support. The factory rear and so many of the other aftermarket units just float around in that big slot in the topstrap just waiting to get knocked loose. Then I want to see how it does with a dovetail front in so much as will it allow that front to remain some centered in its notch and not way off to one side.
This guy is not blued, that's just sharpie black. LOL. I am probably going to end up putting this one on my Ruger Security Six 357 Magnum where it will forever live with one load. I set this guy on my 480 Ruger since it already had the rear sight off to see how it fit the different rear sight mortise. Still, It gives one an alternative to the Vaquero style rear sight since it has that big bold black rear blade. Once again, I have a better unit in my brain, so this one is to just gather your thoughts. So share if you like, but stay tuned....
