What's the general consensus on American Western Arms Single Actions? Anybody have one? Have on opinion on them?
Thanks for your time.

The several that I handled at an AWA Show Booth several years ago were very, very, nice. However, I've never owned nor shot one. I have heard subsequent vague reports about varying quality.

Never shot an AWA, but handled one once. Seemed fairly tight and well finished. If I remember correctly, they're not too expensive. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I might be able to get one for about $300. I was hoping it was worth my time.

Me, too, based on the ones I've seen.

I had a slicked-up Peacemaker model AWA and It was great. The higher model Peacemaker had the action slick-up and a nice blue and case hardened finished. The company failed and was bought out by someone else. Their lower models were not as nice. My Sa was accurate and worked flawlessly. If this is the older Peacemaker Model I would definitely by it.

I suggest you give Alan Harton a call to discuss AWA's. He and I did some years ago and he certainly had a view based upon experience...

AWA for 300? Jump on it, they shoot great and are one of those hidden gems of gundom.

I have a pair of AWA Peacekeepers in 45 Colt. Mine are 7 1/2". Mine are early versions with serial numbers right around 1000.
The actions feel pretty smooth, but it is from having real light springs in them. Both of mine had a weird configuration for a bolt/trigger return spring that I replaced. I also had to replace the bolt in both of mine. Now they lock up like a bank vault.
The overall fit/finish is very good. Accuracy I would rate at a "10". They both shoot right to POA and are very accurate with a variety of loads. I replaced the plastic grips on both of mine, one with imitation ivory and one with Diamond Wood.
They both could use a lighter trigger pull, but I have not messed with that yet. If these were every day using guns I would, but I only shoot them occasionally.
For $300.00 I think I would probably grab another one.

My uncle had one that I got to shoot a few times. It shot and handled as good as any Colt or Colt copy I have ever had in my hands. His son got it after he passed and I have not seen it in years.

AH's opinion on them was that getting a good one is kinda hit or miss. To quote as best I can (and hope he doesn't mind) - "I have had several of them in the shop... and they were all here for a reason."
