I just ordered a pair of Jordan Trooper Stocks for my 1989 629-2 Mountain Gun. Did I do good or should I have ordered the Ropers? I am a small boned guy with little or average sized hands.
I have never been able to tame the little beast and was told that the Jordan Troopers would. By the way, I wore out a 29-2 four inch so I know something about the .44 Maggie.

I like the the Troopers far better than the Ropers myself. The web of my thumb being filled, really stops the movement under severe recoil with my heavy loads. The Troopers actually feel a LITTLE to big until I shoot. I think you made the right choice, if they feel good for you when you shoot. Rob

I recently bought a few pairs of Herretts smooth targets with medallions from CDNN for a fairly good price. I won't see them until I am home next weekend but thought they could easily be tweaked if needed. www.cdnninvestments.com/smwenfrsqbuc.html

I'm kind of in the same boat, except with a Redhawk. My hands aren't small, but they're not large either. They're in between a Medium and Large in glove size. I considered the Ropers, but I need a bit more meat in the web area, which is what the Troopers are supposedly good for. I get by with Pachmayr Presentation Grips for now. Let us know how they work for you and if they fit you well. Chris

The only thing I can say about them is that "YOU WILL LIKE THEM"! They tame recoil a little, but I think the real advantage as Jonilynn said is control. If you do any fast DA shooting the advantage is almost unreal. You are going to like them. Frank

Sounds like I ordered the right Herretts for my Mountain Gun! Can anyone give me an estimate of Herrett's turnaround time on custom-mades? I'm getting impatient to have them.

Keep in mind too that if you go with the smooth finish, both of those styles are subject to customization with not a whole lot of effort or danger of ruining them. mtnbkr mentions having hands in between a Medium and Large in glove size - you're talking about 1/8" difference there. If you get a set and they feel even slightly too large, it is just a matter of sanding them down to feel better and finishing with a simple oil finish. I have made several fingergroove stocks and I know when I have nailed it when I love the feel and my buddies say they feel awful - because they are fit to MY Hand.

I don't know that I'm exactly between the two sizes, just that most mediums are tight and most large gloves are a touch loose. In addition, the grip frame of the Redhawk makes it tough to get grips that aren't too big for me, especially anything with finger grooves. I'm positive Herrett Stocks would work, but the only pics I see of Troopers make them look massive. I'd love to see a set of Redhawk Troopers in person, but I doubt that will ever happen unless I buy them myself. . Chris

Not ideal, but better than any finger groove I have tried. The examples in this thread show some: singleactions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=da&action=display&thread=1132While they look great and I do love the feel of Herrets, they LOOK massive. I might have to just try to make my own and see how they feel or get a set of the smaller ones and sand away.

JONILYNN; Not trying to start an argument or rehash old stories, BUT, as far as Steve H. is concerned they are STOCKS. Cheers

Another consideration is the Detective model, smooth I would think, on an N-frame they give it that rounded feel without being "big", I've seen them on guns on the internet but can't find one at the moment.

I wear a medium glove so I'm hoping the Jordons were the right choice. Those Ropers are sure nice looking!
Still waiting for someone to tell me how long it takes for Herretts to deliver. A month? two months? Six?

I HAVE FAIRLY LARGE HANDS BUT THE JORDANS ARE TOO BIG FOR ME. BILL HAD VERY LARGE HANDS AND HE DESIGNED THEM TO FIT HIMSELF. I PREFER THE ROPERS OR BLUMAGNUM'S SKEETER SKELTONS. GOOD SHOOTIN' AND GOD BLESS, JOHN .

If I remember right and it's been awhile ago, they quoted me 6 to 8 weeks. I'd email them and ask them.
