Yup.... That is where I looked earlier.... Gave me what we call a "warm fuzzy feeling".. The LP primer will simplify life.. I may even try some LP primers in my 500WE... I don't see it in my custom Rugers but my FAs are real picky about the slightest high primer and the LR primers can be a bear to get seated really well.. In a conversation with John Linebaugh he told me that useing LRP can cause pressures to be as much as 10,000 PSI higher with litle gain in velocity and that he doesn't nor has he ever recommended any primer other than LP. I recieved my first 475 in 1988 and even then with the converted rifle cases we used large pistol primers

So, has anyone asked Starline why the LR primer pockets?

So, has anyone asked Starline why the LR primer pockets? It's a hold over from the parent case. You'll find that you can narrow your extreme velocity spread with LP.

So, has anyone asked Starline why the LR primer pockets? I use pistol primers (CCI-350's exclusively) in my Starline 500 Linebaugh brass and have zero problems with my Bowen Nimrod.

J. Barsness tested the effects of primers on velocity, and gave this information, for a .300 Win Mag (I failed to record the powder and the bullet weight reported in the 06/2004 issue of Handloader): fps psi WLRM 2991 70100 Fed 215 M 2964 63800 CCI BR2 2920 55800 Pressure rose nearly 26% and velocity over 2%, for a ratio of 11:1.

Where are the pics of your new 500L?" I don't have a custom gun yet. I want to see how good they really are before I make an investment. That's why I asked, "How does it shoot?"

I will put up a picture of my new .500 Linebaugh SRH a little later on -- took delivery of it last week and have only had it to the range once.......

It does indeed have a large rifle primer pocket but I know of no one using large rifle primers. You will get large pressure spikes with no real gains. None of the commercially loaded ammo uses large rifle primers. PM sent
