I traded my colt 70 series for a long time bucket list gun. A Detonics Combat Master...early Seattle, WA. Serial #CR 15xxx. Not sure but I thing that puts it in the late 70's production. All SS with polished ss triger, hammer, slide stop, and thumb safety. PER the guy I got it from he believed it to be almost unfired condition. The grips are elk star but I have the pacs ad well as the blue checkered main spring housing. One curios thing in on the lady side of the slide no marking as to which model? Mark ii, iv, v,vi, vii?

Congratulations on your new pistol. I don't know enough about the Detonics line but I am glad you got something you have been after.

Jerry Ahern was the author, something like the Survivalist? He carried 2 Detonics, a Python and a Sting boot knife. Congrats on your new pistol.

Ahern’s The Survivalist series had the main character John T Rourke carry two of these.
I haven’t seen one in person on a long time. Congratulations on that!

Congratulations! They are wonderful little guns and far nicer shooters than most people would expect them to be. I grew up reading Ahern's The Survivalist series and I have had a fondness for the Combat Master ever since then. Magazines are somewhat scare / expensive, so keep an eye out at gunshows, local gunshops, etc. whenever you wander.

Thank you and mags are but there are true repo from I think USA detonics usually sell 2 for $57. Or triple k for $30. Haven't seen a metgar yet so don't know on dollars, ebay has ones with base plates for you pinky pretty afgordably. But what I want is the 451 detonics mag Barrel and bushing new forv $180.

Nice score...one of my friends has one that he bought new a LONG time ago...
Always wanted one of the more rare versions that was chambered in .38 Super and had no sights...
As to the sights...I always thought it was odd that the rear sight was so far up the slide... I read where Detonics did it that way for people who carried in Condition II with the hammer down on a live round so they didn't cut their hand on the sight blade while fanning the hammer back with the support side palm... Anyone else heard any reasons that the rear sight isn't at the rear of the slide??

Those guns were built with carrying completely in mind. The Mark VII I believe was the no sight/No snag FBI model. 38 super and 451 Detonics magnum were the rarest 2 calibers but they also had rare models they made 2 of, 5 of, etc. Thanks Jim
