Good evening all,
The building process is slow but sure. A fellow forum member has me considering a model 29 ribbed barrel cut down to 4 5/8 for an OM Blackhawk .44 spec. build that is currently underway. While the concept is intriguing, I'm not quite convinced. I'd like to know if using s&w barrels adds any more than aesthetics to the piece. Also, if anyone of you have pictures of a BH with a ribbed s&w barrel installed I'd be very interested in seeing them.

Model 57 barrel on an old model 357 conversion. Rebored 629 barrel to 45.

Thanks, both of you. Is putting Smith barrels on Colts and Rugers all about appearance or is there a functional benefit to going that route?

I have a couple and it is about appearance to me. Pay attention to the frame to barrel fitting area, the really nice ones have welding/reshaping done to the frame to enhance the transition to the ribbed barrel.
I think they are among the best looking of the custom SA revolvers. That said, I've never laid eyes on an ovate barrel in person, so my mind could be changed....

Here's mine with the shaping mentioned by Princeout.

Primarily looks to suit the owner, though may add slight additional weight, which is usually a good thing. I think it makes the gun reminiscent of the short-lived Great Western Deputy revolver of some years back.

Another with the reshape, I'm guessing rkrcpa's is a Horvath too. Mike454 that's hands down the best looking revolver I've ever seen.

Hi Tim, My problem isn't figuring out how to get rid of this one, but trying to get another one just like it. This one and my ovate barreled best quality Bowen 50 special would be the last two guns I'd get rid of.

Not all these still live here but here are a few I've had built and one I found.... .327s on Single Six frames with K frame barrels. And a couple .45 Colts with N frame barrels..... Large frame: Mid frame: The most recent builds....41 magnums on a large and a meduim frame...both these barrels were shop fabricated at BCA. I think they do a realy nice job....I'm almost convinced I like them better than the rebores and not significantly more expensive if any. Look closely at the transition from the integral front sight base into the rib...SWOOSH! Here are a few re-bores waiting patiently in the wings.....32s a .25 and .45s....
