I don’t hunt and have no use for solid bullets. But after building a .585 Nyati, I decided to make some out of brass. To date, I’ve used a cast LFN I designed and Woodleigh’s bonded Weldcore. It seems natural to add a solid to the lineup. 800 grain Martin LFN Woodleigh 750 gr Weldcore The LFN is more accurate so I copied that profile. Having created the bullet, I had the specifications. Here are the steps involved. First, 5/8” brass rod is turned to 0.585”. I chose brass over bronze or copper alloys like C14500 or C220 for a few reasons: 1) Brass is harder and tougher than pure copper due to the addition of zinc 2) Brass lathes easier 3) Brass is cheaper My dad specially ground a cut-off bit to match my 800 gr ogive. The cutter is positioned 90 degrees and run into the end. A carriage stop is set and the cross-feed dial is noted. Predetermined spacers are used on the stop to position each of the four relief cuts. The carriage stop Before cutting the bullet from the round stock, I used a file to lightly bevel the heel. The final weight is 667 grains. Dang it Lee, you need to make an exception to the non-hunting thing and plan a trip to Africa with that rifle!

Very , very nice. !! That's the kind of project I would expect to see on AR. Have you shot any of those yet ? The Nyati should push them around 2400 fps with ease I would think. Beautiful rifle also ! Looks like about a 20" barrel plus the brake. Nice brake also. Is it a Harrell's?

That’s a mighty bullet. Any idea how many feet of test media you’ll need to put in front of that monster to catch it?

Way cool... BTW... how long would it take you to make a bullet, once you were set up... could you make 30 in an hour??? I get it's not a CNC machine, just curious... I've often thought about picking up a small lathe & trying to make some myself

Have you shot any of those yet ? Nice brake also. Is it a Harrell's? I haven't shot them yet, but will soon. And the brake isn't a Harrell's. We machine our own. This one is out of stainless, matching the barrel. Here are some close-ups: -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Very interesting project Lee, I love the detailed descriptions & the great photo's as you work your way through a project. Being brave I volunteer James From Jersey to shoot it, all 128 lbs of him.....
