I wanna see what folks have had done for No. 5 recreations of the Mother of All Single Actions..... I'll start.... I wish I had this one back....I bought it from our fearless leader 2Dogs years ago and was my introduction to the man...the legend. I've learned over time it may not be so much what the gun is but the story behind it and getting your hands on it..... This one is chambered in .44 Special by David Clements. Does not have the fancy cylinder release.... Sorry for the cut and paste job but &%@!&** Facebook still has my pics and I just screenshot it....

Old model flat top 357 base gun turned into dual cylinder 41 mag / 41 Special by Hamilton with ivory by Paul Persinger. A few TLA guns with ivory by Alan Harton.

Here is mine built in 2009 by Ron Power. It is the first gun built with his then new grip frame for Rugers. The original gun was a 5.5" FT 44 special and remains that caliber today. I have a set of fancy walnut grips from Blu Magnum, but these are ram's horn from Patrick Grasshorn. The gun has spent a lot of time on my hip in 8 1/2 years, accounting for a couple deer and numerous pests. For a lot of reasons my Power #5 would be the last to go. Dan

This started life as a USFA Flattop Target Bisley. Work done by Clements. Grips by Persinger. I still have to get it out for engraving. Kid in college so it must wait.

Looks like a Colt or USFA frame since the screws come from the other side. Just a possibility.

so help a guy out here... looking at these pics I see some really nice single actions... but I'm having trouble finding defined similarities unless those are all 5" barrels???
what exactly is the definition of a #5???

Each person will have their own interpretation of the definition do here goes mine. First of all the grip frame. A mating of a bisley style blackstrap with a SAA style front strap. This is the most obvious festure in my mind. While the grip frame is the most obvious, to me, the base pin latch is just as much a defining feature as the backstrap. Beyond these features you get into the clambering which classically is 44 Doecual and sights. Obviously I applied my own likes in my Bowen gun because I strayed in caliber, barrel contour and sights from the original but my goal was not a Brian Pierce type reproduction of Keith's original #5.

Ironically the gun another member posted as being the first one made on a Powers new model #5 grip frame has a fraternal brother in my gun. I believe Hamilton said this was the first old model Ruger #5 grip frame done.

I never knew the backstrap was engraved until I received the gun.... This one is .45 Colt... Became pretty good friends in the short time I knew Bill Grover.... Really miss that guy....
Sorry... just re-read the post about #5 recreations...my mistake...
