It took them a few years, but the handwriting has been on the wall for quite some time.
Unless they undergo a radical change in management, quality control, and customer service, it is basically over for them. One of the worst run firearm companies in the United States besides Colt.
We had a customer order two rifles from the Remington Custom Shop, and BOTH were delivered substantially different from the specification sheet. Both had to be sent back, and replaced with two new, entirely different firearms.
We ordered an upper end 700 for a fellow in .25-06 which arrived with no chamber! Not cut whatsoever, just a .25 caliber rifled hole from one end to the other.
We ordered a .22 Magnum 597 for a customer that arrived with a faulty magazine, which Remington replaced, only to discover that the rifle didn’t function reliably with any magazine. It was replaced, but the customer made the mistake of leaving the magazine loaded for a month or two, which destroyed the spring! He got a new mag and now leaves in unloaded until needed, not real handy on a farm.

I know most of the stories are true, I witnessed two guys at the range one day with two identical brand new 700's. On one the bolt would not close, on an empty chamber! Were it me, no matter who made it, I would have run the bolt before it left the store.

i think the remmy i bought was in 1993, it was a m7 in 7-08. all i see is there lack of quality control.

It's a true shame what mismanagement of Remington has done to our oldest gunmaker. Hopefully the brand will reappear in its former glory. Same for Marlin. The big corporate mindset that sucks up all the smaller fish and brings them under one banner of mismanagement really sucks.
