Dick, the hunter is hunting our place opening weekend. We have hunted with him outside of Montrose off and on since 95. They had some CWD problems and the herd seemed to dwindle but has really rebounded in the last few years. That is the third buck they have killed in excess of 170 in the last two weeks.

One of the areas we hunt is 60 miles upstream from there. It winter killed baddly 2 years ago but is coming around again. I am looking forwards to chasing big mulies again here in a year or two when things get back to normal. I would rather hunt big old Mulies than anything else...

He bought a 300 win mag from my old police department partner. He also uses a 270. I will find out.

NICE GARY.....KIRK DARNER COUNTRY..... ;D I agree with Gary, I lived in Gunnison for 10 years and we knew more about that bastard than the DOW did (or at least could prove). He poached, stole, bought, lied about, shot game from helicopters, and so much more for 40 years! He had a sick blood lust to possess these giant deer and have his name in the record books. Nothing that he ever wrote or spoke could be believed, if his lips are moving he is lieing! Montrose is a far better place without that SOB, as Gary said Kirks name is not spoken as there is no good that can come from that bastard ever sticking his head out of whatever hole he lives in now! It needs to be shot off like a prairie dog's when the opportunity presents itself. He should spend the rest of his life in jail but saddly he isn't. Sorry for the rant, he represents everything wrong and horrible in the hunting world. He is also someone who I looked up to as a kid wanting to "be a real hunter like Kirk". If that is being a hunter, PITA is right and we should all stop hunting now, we have lost. Fortunately I know better.... |

Although he didnt do much time he lost his precious records and reputation. Probably worse punishment to him.
Anyway it looks like the deer hunting has really improved in the region. Jared has hunted hard for a dozen years and really earned this buck of a lifetime. I hope he kills a whitetail to match in a couple weeks here in Oklahoma.
