These books worth getting??

A week or so ago I ran across a couple books at The Rusty Gun wile searching for nothing in particular, yet I hesitated to pick them up. Now I'm wondering if they're worth going back for. The titles were Handloading for Handgunners by Maj. George C. Nonte, Jr. and Hunting for Handgunners by Larry Kelly and J.D. Jones.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Nonte's books are pretty much classics; the mere chance to read about handgun hunting by Larry 'Super-Vel' Kelly and J.D. Jones (inventor of a number of cartridges, primarily for the T/C Contender) would have made me jump at a chance to buy that book!

Yep, I would have bought both. My copy of the Kelly/Jones is falling apart. Having read it so much times. It's a classic.

I have and have read both - classic editions for anyone's gun library.

Definitely yes. Prices ? Often when I hear of a book, generally here, I'll go support my local library first. If enamored of the book, will hunt it down and buy it. Amongst the books here, 3 of John Taffins. Good stuff.

I also have both, have for decades. At this point they're both somewhat dated but still contain much valuable information for the enthusiastic handgunner.

They were around 8 bucks each, but they had obviously been sitting for 20+ years. Not sure why I didn't think of checking with the library. We homeschool and the library is rather like a second living room for our family. We also get the benefit of an interlibrary loan system that gives us access to virtually any library in the state. I just checked and both books are available through interlibrary loan, so it looks like I get to try before I buy.

For the price I probably should have just snapped them up, but I'm trying really hard to bring less "stuff" into my life, that for all intents and purposes, just sits around and collects dust. I've got enough dust collectors as it is already.

Understand. For 8 bucks, they'd have gone out the door under my arm though. Have read the second one, from the library ! Good read.

Yeah, but now I get to take my wife out to coffee, take my son to the library (he LOVES the library), read two cool old books and keep 10 bucks in my pocket.

As much as I like our local libraries, 9 outta ten times the books I want, about guns or gun stuff, have to be ordered from outta the system. Easy to find books on witchcraft, devil worship and other things you wish your kids wouldn't find there, but guns are evil ! Sigh.

The only good gun book my library ever had was Ken Howell's cartridge drawings book.
WHY ON EARTH they purchased that not inexpensive monster of a book I will never know. They probably ended up selling it for .50¢ at one of their used book sales.

Odin, if you pick them up and don't care to keep them, I'm sure you can resell them.

Might want to price them out on Amazon & see if that influences you any.
