This from Reeds over the weekend... "We have requested it from them in the past, there was very little interest. For now we make it from the .41 Mag brass and sell it as well as the loaded ammo." shop.reedsammo.com/401-Herters-Powermag_c240.htmso I'm assuming these have a 41 Magnum headstamp... I typically knurl the headstamps off on my brass formed from something else... but since Starline makes the 10 mm Magnum brass, it's too bad we can't get 401 brass from them, since the 10 mm Magnum is essentially a rimless 401

We'll see how long it takes me... I look at any caliber worth reloading & shooting, to be worthy of 500 Cases... it's looking like I'll start out with the resized 41 magnum cases & knock off the headstamps... but will replace those ASAP with new 401 cases if they should ever turn up... I'm not keeping that close of tabs, but I thinking I'm reloading more than 80 different calibers right now... & several of them are reformed cases ( Contenders have a way of doing that to you ) so I'm always looking for correctly headstamped cases... I think there are 4-5 different cases formed from 223 in my collection... a good many of these were inherited when my FIL died... things like 6mm TCU are hard to tell from 223 when you are a relative newbie... I learned a lot, & everything is separated & well marked now

I stopped at the Starline booth at the SHOT Show Wednesday and put a pitch in for .401 brass...
May never go anywhere but I did tell them about Ruger's new 10mm/.40 S&W Blackhawk and how buyers were either having a new cylinder made or rechambering one of the original ones...

I would buy a couple hundred just to have some reliable brass. I'm still using some I made outta 30-30 brass. Truth is I shoot the gun very little . Who knows ? Maybe that would change with a dependable brass supply.

I think someone will have to commit to buy the first run, and pay for the headstamp. It can say whatever you want it to. If you want Star-line to pick it up later and offer it as a regular item, I suggest you keep it simple and classic. I really wanted them to offer the .41spl as a regular offering, but it took several years..........

All the talk about 401 Powermag brass -- (that sounds like putting the cart before the horse) --- what about loading dies??? --- before buying a bunch of brass, how do you reload?? --I'm still looking for reloading dies -- looking for RCBS #56502 w/shell holder (same as 41 Mag) #30

I have one custom made swaging die And 2 sets of 10mm dies, and a 41 magnum shell holder ( I make 401 powermag cases with the 41 magnum rim ) I thin the 41 brass at the web, on a lathe, as the web does not Swage well,… been doing this for the 401 powermag ( the actual powermag brass has a smaller rim, as needed for the old Herters guns, but for the custom Buckeye cylinder, I can use the 41 rims, untouched…
I have another custom in 10mm Rimmed, that uses the same brass, cut shorter
I have more than 500 of the custom 401 cases done, and about half of a 500 lot done for the 10mm rimmed, at this point… I hope to finish the lathe work this winter, on the balance of the 10mm Rimmed

I'd be good for maybe 500. I would love to have a shootable amount of brass but. In the end my gun is just an old Herter's. And that big ole beast, while being a fun kind of novelty, will never be my go-to fun gun. Now if convertible 10mm/401Pmag Rugers became accessible, well then for sure I'd be stocking up.

Unfortunately under current conditions, until they can just have .327 Federal and .41 Magnum brass in stock for immediate shipment, the .401 is going nowhere...

what about loading dies??? I bought a set of 401 PowerMag dies from CH4D about 6 months ago. They had them in stock. They work perfectly.
