S&W 25-9
I think the only mould I have for this is the RCBS 45-255-SWC
I have wheel weight alloy, tin, linotype, and pure lead.
Could you suggest a good alloy to start for this combination?
Grooves at 452, I have a 452 lubrisizer die. Throats at 454.

For myself, I use nothing harder than air cooled wheelweights, but consider 50% WW / 50% pure lead a good alloy for this cartridge.... air cooled or water dropped depending on the quality and depth of the barrels rifling.Could you suggest a good alloy to start for this combination? Grooves at 452, I have a 452 lubrisizer die. Throats at 454. I would try 0.454" sizing diameter first..... yep, you probably don't have one.... but you asked.

It turns out that I have two 452 sizer dies. I'll lap one of them to 454 and go with the 50/50.

If you're going to lap one of those dies, try to stop at 0.4535". If it doesn't do well, you can always go up.

Bob is spot on. Depending on the alloy you will see some spring back. Get a 1” micrometer so you can accurately measure your bullets.

I'll be measuring to the tenth of a thousandth You are way ahead in this game and paying attention to detail can make a ton of difference.

This is a great group of professionals and dedicated sportsmen.
I get the sense that there's an infinite resource here. Definitely a lot to pay attention to!

There are many aspects to performance . One of the members here posted this: "The more I learn, the more I'm realizing a pass through is the most over rated aspect of hunting rounds." on another forum. An astute observation that many people do NOT understand. Maybe he will see this and comment along with any other folks that want to do so.
Two weeks and no response..............surely someone has something to say?

Maybe the best amount of penetration is to be stopped by the hide on the off side of the animal. Meanwhile two holes let out more blood than one. Two different ideas..........
