I have a question about one of my favorite bullets. Its a MP mold and his designation (whats marked on my mold) is 454-297. On another site is refered to as “Ruger ONLY” mold. Mine is a solid version and they drop at 330gr with a long flat nose shape. These things shoot great! I was wondering if the bullet is a “640” nose design.

That is the Ruger only mold set up for the Blackhawks in 45 Colt. I shoot mine in HP's in handguns and rifles. It is a 640 nose design also.

Bob, Im interested in buying a 41 caliber mold for my 41mag. My goal is to take a coyote with that gun and bullet. MiHA has a 411-640 (170-ish gr Hp) and a 413-640 (215-ish grain HP) Which bullet would be better for a coyote application?

Both will kill a coyote quite well if alloyed properly............ use the large HP. I hope you're not a hide hunter!

Thanks, I wish I had the HP version. Pushed at about 2200 fps out of a 45 Raptor AR, the HP's leave a golf ball size hole thru groundhogs and kills well in pistols.

MiHA has a 411-640 (170-ish gr Hp) and a 413-640 (215-ish grain HP) Which bullet would be better for a coyote application? How can we get this mold to include a GC option on the 411640? Alright, will you tell me how you load yours and your alloy please. "41 Caliber gas checks are another cause for not using them either.“ Boolitdesigner, I dont understand what you mean by this statement. Could you explain this please. I have more than a few 41 caliber molds.... four of which are the gas check variety with PB versions of the same. I have also driven these to quite high velocities in rifles. These bullets weigh from 180 grains to 265 grains and velocities are from mild (600 fps) to wild (2300 fps). 41 caliber gas checks vary a lot from maker to maker and are not usually uniform.. ie Lymans like the old Lyman push on and others like whatever they fit. Consequently I have three different brands of gas checks for these. Having said all this I usually don't use gas checks unless I want to use one of the gas check molds for a very specific purpose. You usually don't need a gas check until you shoot a soft heavier bullet. Typically most people will be shooting the 41 Mag.... this one doesn't need a gas check in the rifle or the pistol. Use the right alloy at a proper hardness and it doesn't lead while giving excellent accuracy and expansion. My alloy is 50% wheel weights and 50% dead soft lead (I use rifle bullet cores myself as I acquired a pallet load of them some 25 years ago) and I water drop them out of the mold and size after two weeks. Nothing special about that method either. I usually prefer either Unique or WW 296 for powder choices with 0.410" to 0.411" diameter bullets and load normally in RCBS dies.
