So basically, the task of drilling a hole into the front of a cast bullet does not effectively work unless the mouth is opened wide enough to also support initiate the expansion as well as the hardness of said bullet? Cast hollow point bullets should not be hard, though you can have the outside of the bullet hard via using a very low antimony bullet with a trace of tin and water dropping it (useful for the magnum cartridges). This method or sixshot's WW/lead percentages work fine also.

And how could I tell by looking at a commercial bullet which one it might be?

These are between 14 and 16 BHN fired into sand. They were drilled on theForster hollow point drill. I’ll have to look to see how fast they were traveling but probably about 950fps.

You fired a "solid" from the lack of performance. Had those been cast of a 40:1 or softer alloy, they may have opened more at that velocity.

Was just curious. When shot into water up close they will start to open. They need to be pretty soft as you say.

Any more interest? Time to make this? I see over on castboolits they are working on a 385 gr .500 HP group buy, but I was wanting a little heavier like this one. Any chance in making this design a reality? I'm looking for a new mold for my recently acquired Bfr 500 JRH and would love a hp version, but if not enough interest I will order a WFN design.

Oh, it will happen........ But we don't want you all to have to break your piggy bank when they all come in. We're trying to spread out the financial pain...............

And I for one certainly appreciate that! I received two bills from Mihec last week so decided to count up the number of buys I'm currently waiting on. If my list is accurate, I'm still waiting on 8 more, and I haven't even signed up for Fermin's new .44 slug yet! It's not usually an issue just as long as they don't all show up at once. I'm thrilled that we've added boolitdesigner to our ranks!

Bob, in the 257-640 thread, there's question about the 6 cavity mold. Brass or aluminum?

Bob, guys are chit chatting about the 22 Hornet lately. I just snagged a Super 14 Contender barrel. What would you suggest as a proper small game cast bullet? I know I would love a GCHP that ran about 35-40 grains and had a really bad attitude!!

I can do that Fermin............ Give me some time as a neighbor is occupying most all of it right now (GB drawings included in that time business).
