Some guns are just things, plastic soulless tools. Some are owned and bring great pride of ownership with them. And then there are guns that for a time in our life we become caretakers of. These are guns that are bigger than being owned. They have history and are significant among our pursuit of single action revolvers. We know we won’t own them forever and while we do have them we think about who will have it next. I have a gun among my many that I feel I’m just the caretaker of. Bill Grover built this gun and it is a blue TLA #5 that has ivory grips by Alan Harton. Alan also went through the internals and made it like it should be. Don’t get me wrong. I paid real money for it but saying I own it just doesn’t seem to fit. Maybe we are just partners for awhile....
Am I crazy or do any of you think you are caretakers? What gun is that gun for you?

That gun for me would be Elmer Keith's Champlin-Haskins 338/378KT. He shot his 50th and last bull elk with the gun along with several other elk, pronghorn and mule deer. Probably one of his last guns that accounted for multiple heads of game, I like to think of it as his last meat gun.

I'm in the caretaker camp, but mostly because of the guys on this forum. Hard to explain, but real just the same. Tim

Care takers is very correct!

They ALL just pass through our hand unless we gave them buried with us. One of the most rewarding things I have found with custom revolvers is keeping them awhile then sending them to someone else who has expressed an interest in caring for them next.
