I was talking to a wise sixgun guru recently about what will be (barring any unforeseen disasters) my first, and likely last full on custom handgun project. Since this will be my only shot at this it has to be something special and meaningful. The cherry on top will be a custom rig made by Dr. Shuckenstein himself (Doc Barranti) although he doesn’t know it yet. And please don’t any of y’all tell him. I want it to be a surprise! Anyway, during the guru’s and my discussion about caliber and platforms he asked me “ what are you gonna shoot with it?” I said paper. He said, “no ass clown, what are you going to hunt with it!’ Well I had to think about that because I live in central Florida and have never hunted here. There’s no game here that peaks my interest outside of a guided hunt on a private ranch of some sort. I’ve never paid anyone to hunt and I ain’t gonna start now. I guess I could go to Bear Bridge Ranch just up the road from me and shoot a meat hog or something but just the thought of it feels dirty to me. So, after considering my options concerning the guru’s question the only animal I could come up with is the damn coons that insist on eating Gray’s food. That’s my grandsons cat, he named him after SpongeBob Squarepants pet snail. I love watching SpongeBob with Tater. After a long discussion I’ve left all the details, including the choice of leather, in my friends capable hands. He’s going to drive the boat, I’m just gonna turn my hat around and enjoy the ride. This will be an exciting and informative adventure. Paul

Wow, a racoon killing ray gun! How about a small caliber integrally suppressed barrel....

A .32 mag or .327 sounds like it would be right up your alley!!!

First off, no customs here. When I do think of one, well, custom and bigbore automatically go together. Can't help it. Hogs, if it's not in a pen or tied to a tree, I'd be ok with it as long as were talking hogs. Wouldn't let the ranch/game farm thing bother me. Wish joy and happiness ! Oh, if it goes on walks with you, it may be needed to shoot things you'd not hunt, just sayin'. The 327 thing may still do. I haven't gone there yet either.

45 COLT
Or...
44 Special
Load them up, or down, however you see fit. Will cover most any situation.
If you don't mind a stainless steel finish, it is hard to beat a Freedom Arms.

Get your hands on one of the mid frame 44 specials, you can drive it really mild for target loads or wind it up for hogs, deer, self defense, etc. One of the all time classics & Skeeter would give his approval....and so would Doc Barranti.

Appreciate all the encouragement and suggestions. I’m not really in charge of the build so..... I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be a smaller bore of some sort but that is yet to be determined. Not really interested in the .44’s and .45’s. Although they’re great they’ve been done to death BUT if one of those calibers is chosen by the man driving the project then that’s what it will be.
