A 3 day weekend at camp coming up ! Grouse seaon opens and the Clarion river is at the bottom of the mountain. So time to put fresh line on the tele-UL spin rod and pull out and clean the lil 20ga Ithaca M37. Its from '49 or '50 and had been special ordered with a 24" full choke. Odd pairing. Well, full chokes were more common then, but barrels usually ran longer too. Somebody wanted a bunny gun ? Don't know, but I had the choke reamed out to @ I..C.. Often put a spreader load up and in first too. We'll hunt our way down and fish and have trail lunch. Then hunt back up. Some will fish early and grouse in the afternoon. Some of the gang may float. See what the weather offers. One of the guys wants to scout for bear,he has the bug BAD ! May take him up into an arera where I know they dumped the "bad" bears for years and may yet. Reminds me, still wanting a wider meplat PC'd bullet for my 480's. No Watusi's around here or camp,so..

Of course the real chore is to pick which handguns get to go. If I sit real quietly, I can just barely hear some whining going on. Pick me..pick me..

So, the handguns going to camp picks go like this. ALWAYS a .22, either a 6.5" SS or the MK 22/45 5.5". A carry gun for traveling and outhouse trips, due to it still being warm, this choice will give the nod to the 44spec Bulldog. Sorry M69. The shorty 480 for woods walking and bear scouting, just because. The 6.5" BSBH likely will go too, need more trigger time, hope to hunt it this year. Am still wanting to find a PC'd bullet with a bit more weight and meplat than MBC's offering. There being no Watusi's around here.

Odd, I've had bird hunters from 4-5 states, furthiest from Colorado visit and hunt. From a tactical/combatives forum, had folks from Missouri to Ireland come for a course hosted there ! Here, we have a half dozen maybe within 3 hours and I've only met COR.. After several attempts, well. This weekend there will be maybe 5 members, a few other adults and 5-7 kids, a couple of bird dogs. Grass likely to get mowed, think a wood splitter is going up, the woodpile will get some attention. Hunting/fishing/shooting the rest of the time.

Having had a CA Bulldog 44 Special blow up in my hand last winter I'm somewhat anti Bulldog . Especially compared to a model 69 . Which I got to handle for the first time this past weekend. Nice revolver. The one I handled was a 4" barrel. But , it sounds like a Great trip.

Wonder what happened to your Bulldog ? They are a minimalist 44spec gun. I'd say not suited to high round counts or even a steady diet of Skeeter loads. The M69 is great, but laid atop each other, you can see it is way more gun. It does not drop as easily into pockets and such. Why I love mine. It's in my fleece vest pocket right now. My "Bear rounds" for the little Bulldog are 6.5 grs of Unique or the equivelent, and either a Penn 240 TH or a 265 LFN. It does not see many of those. Think Ruger's GP44 very close to the M69's size, bulk, weight.
