I'm setting up my G2 with a 12 inch Bullberry barrel and hanger system forend in 7-30 Waters, but when I mount the Leupold VX3 2.5x8 the eye relief is all wrong for the positions I'll be shooting in most often. The barrel has the 6 hole pattern for a scope base.
What Weaver base will move the scope the furthest forward?
As an aside, the threading protector is literally invisible in profile since they make, polish, and blue them as a unit. Pretty nice stuff.

That 2.5-8 Leupold can be a problem. The eye relief gets so short at the higest power. I'd look for a full length picatinny rail for the barrel. Maybe use some QD rings to give you an option for quick adjustments in the field.

Be careful with the front ring if you are only using two. If it is hanging unsupported by the barrel your shots will be all over the place.

I think I need a 6 hole rail that's as long as I can find. I tried offset rings and that didn't help a whole bunch. The scope practically needs to be mounted mid-barrel for prone shooting. I like the idea of a full length rail. Use the six holes in the back and D&T the front like you'd be putting a front sight on (currently has none) and make a rail that screws into those 8 locations. Betting Bullberry would D&T the barrel and make a base for it. No idea what that'd do to accuracy, and it would almost definitely be ugly! A manufacturer I'm not familiar with, but they make interesting mounts: www.kenlightmfg.com/products.html
