It has piqued my curiosity, but it only seems to get about 100 fps over a hot 10mm. Anybody shoot this round?

It has been a bit since I shot the 40 Super, I have a 1911 conversion barrel as wel as a Glock 21 conversion. Both shoot well and had no issues loading for it. I also have a DI AR15 upper in 40 Super that is great but loud.... I only chronograph 1 load and it was with 135gr bullets and it was about 150 fps faster then my hot 10mm 135gr loads. I will try and dig up the load data this weekend. For me it is a fun range gun that gets everyone's attention FAST.. I think there are still a couple of companies doing factory loads for it but not 100% on that.

I think it is, depending on what you plan to do with it. Would I carry it for edc self defense no, would I carry it hunting as a primary or backup yes. It is an interesting round and can be powerful and accurate. It is easy to load and being a bottle neck cartridge it feeds well in everything I have run it in. Is it better then the 10mm not in my opinion because 10mm brass is easy to get and there are a ton of factory 10mm loads. If you like Wildcats and are a reloader and can get brass and dies then it is a great round. I know starline does runs of 40 Super brass and I think dies are still available on the web. So I am not sure if I answered your question if it is worth it or not, but depending on what you want to do with it the my answer is yes and maybe no.

Well, I'm in! Orders an LWD barrel for my Glock 21, some Redding dies, and some .40 Super brass. I got load data from Tony Rumore, so I should be set.

If you plan to go hot with the 40 Super you may want to get a recoil spring guide that you can swap springs and go to a heavier spring. I need to look but I think I settled on a 22lb spring. Keep us posted.

Keep us posted. I started out with a 24 lbs. spring and so far, so good. I tried five different powders and the highest average velocity I achieved so far out of my Glock 21 4.6" conversion barrel has been 1,320 fps using 180gr XTPs. So far, even using double stack mags, no malfunctions. I intend to make the next batch a little hotter, but wanted to start with a more middle of the road velocity.

It is always better to start under max and work up. The 24lb spring should be good to go.

I just fired full-power .40 Super yesterday for the first time. I bought .40 Super ammo from Underwood. I got 135 grain Nosler JHPs at 1,775 fps and 200 grain Hornady XTPs at 1,450 fps. Whoa, Nelly were they loud! Especially the 135gr. rounds! Both had stout recoil but the 200gr. rounds were hands down the heaviest recoil I've handled in a semi-auto. And no, I haven't fired a .45 Win Mag, .475 Wildey, or a .50 AE in a Desert Eagle, so those could be stronger.
I don't find the recoil to be debilitating at all, though. It just takes a little more focus to make sure you don't let it get away from you. But it's pretty fun stuff if you ask me 😁

I have been thinking of loading some 165gr gold dots and using the 40 Super when we are pushing hogs in heavy brush this year.

How does the G21 frame hold up to that velocity ? Any battering ? What is the base case for the round ?? Any pics ?? A 200 gr bullet at over 1400 fps from a Glock is very impressive.

I have several thousand rounds thru my G21 with the 40 Super conversion and no issues, I also run a 24lb recoil spring. As to the base case I don't rember what was used but starline normally has brass in stock; 40 Super BrassAnd runs it almost every year. I don't have any pics of it but will see what I have loaded and will post some.

I like the bottlenecks in pistols but not all do. The 400 Corbon and 40 super can be pushed beyond what the 10mm can if you have the setup to do it. This means full case support and a compensator.
I've pushed the 10mm well past what Underwood loads their rounds to and have pushed a 220gr to 1425fps in a 6.6" barrel with a large compensator. I truly believe that this level of power requires the use of a compensator similar to the 460 Rowland to save the frame from being battered. Ill limit the 220s to 1200ish without a comp.
A huge bonus of bottleneck rounds is more efficient burning of slower powders like 2400, aa9 and h110. A comped gun with a heavy h110 load makes for a very soft, flat shooter!
I'm now working with a glock 21 chambered for the 38/45acp loaded to 38 casull specs and the power it's generating with h110 and 125xtp bullets has impressed me. 125s approaching 2000fps with cases only ejecting 2 feet! Super soft recoil but it's obnoxiously loud!
