After Labor Day, The Massachusetts black bear season will open up until the 23rd of September. The state does not allow bait or dogs so your chances are quite slim in spite of a growing bear population.
My plan for the attack, so to speak, is to try to do some calling. I have a fawn decoy which is more or less collecting dust. I hope to set it up in some key areas and use a fawn in distress call on my FoxPro Spitfire. Hopefully it will work.
I plan to load up some Speer Deep Curl HP bullets that weigh 240 grains for the hunt. I know my chances are very slim but it beats sitting around the house.

I hope you have some luck! My handgunned bears are my favorite.

Sept 1st to June 30th here no baiting in fall. Dust off and polish that fawn with bacon grease should help, also water proof you boots with it.

I've called in spring bears with a cotton tail distress call but I think your fawn bleat should work better. We never try calling in the fall because we are bowhunting but we saw 3 bears last archery season. Good luck & take a partner, many times they come in fast!

yep... best of luck... MN allows baiting... lots of guys are using wick ( hot baits ) now... hmmm... a thick coating of bacon grease to "condition" your boots each morning might not be a bad idea, where baiting is not allowed I used to take 4-5 apples with when I dear hunted, tossing the 1/2 - 3/4 eaten cores out to the trail

Are those scent aerosol cans ,the ones that lock open legal? Pretty sure they got some sweet smelling ones.

Many years ago I relocated to a very small community. I recall a couple of locals talking about bear hunting. Apparently their wives feminine napkins were used as a bear lure. They were betting on whose wife would attract a bear the fastest.

Thanks for all of the positive comments. Today we're sitting in the house due to the remnants of Harvey over So. New England. So this is a good day to load up ammo and the like. I will go in my hunting shed and get my fawn decoy out and find my deer urine. Hopefully I will do well in the next two weeks.
