James
I am surprised you recovered bullets. I would have thought they would have gone on though. How fast were you pushing them?

Great job James, you have done well & earned your place in the handgunning world. I could make an argument about bullets but you got it done, that's all that matters. I tip my hat!

James I am surprised you recovered bullets. I would have thought they would have gone on though. How fast were you pushing them? Mark If you go back up a few posts here you will see the photo of me shooting off the roof of a car and you can clearly see the blue box of Freedom Arms 454 ammo... Without having clocked them I would think the bullets were running around 1750+fps from my 7 1/2" barrel. The bull was on a rise and a slight 1/4 away. If you look at the pic below you can see the entrance hole just in front of the end of my barrel and after going through the heart it was stopped just under the hide of offside shoulder. So, either the moose was a tough animal or I did not use cast bullets.... He traveled no more then 20 to 30 yards after the shot....Oh, I forgot...I threw a 300gr Speer JFP at him from my S&W five inch belt gun as he ran that caught the back leg....I wonder??

Amazing. Where was that? That moose sure looks great, they sure are monsters when you get close enough to shoot them with a revolver. That hunt took place in northern Utah in the Wastach Mtn.s........

James is one of my very favorite people, a hardcore handgunner! Now, James you may not know this but the very northern edge of the Wasatch Mountain range is 4 miles from my house, it's right where we were shooting in the river!!! Remember where you were pounding those river rocks from 300+ yds away, you had a smile on your face as big as Texas! The Indians called it Sheep Point because it was covered with wild Bighorn Sheep back when the first trappers came through Soda Springs.

I know what rock you guys are talking about. I was there with Dick. He had me shoot at it with his Ruger 44 special flat top. I got lucky and hit it on the 5th round. Lucky shot for me. That trip Dick showed me what a Great shot he is.I saw him shoot a duck at about 85 yards off hand with his 32 maggie.

I killed a bull Nilgai in south Texas a few years back. VERY tough animals!

I once shot a 260 FA bullet broadside through a blue wildebeest, and nearly all the way through a second one, unseen, standing behind the first. Hard, for sure, James. I quit using it.

I think friend Glenn Swaggart has a couple thousand of those 260 gr. bullets, I think they would shoot through a bull Rhino, end to end! Pretty sure he bought every last bullet Freedom Arms had the last time he was here.

James
I meant bullet recovery from the Nilgai.

James I meant bullet recovery from the Nilgai. Coloradoyaler, Ken O`Neil was also surprised about the recovered Woodleigh bullets from the nilgi and more so when you read the recommended impact velocity that`s listed on the box at 1500 - 2000fps.... I used reload info from Brian Pierce that has a 400gr Sierra JFP over 31.0grs of LilGun that he measured at 1123fps from a 7 1/2" barrel. My 500WE has a 6" barrel so I be surprised if my 400gr Woodleigh reached 1100fps which makes the expansion all the more surprising. The average expansion for the four recovered 400gr JFP`s was 0.806" while the average weight was 397.4grs. .... I wonder how the bullet would perform at 2000fps...
