That must be why they're playing "Wild Bill" on TV this week. We visited his final resting place in Deadwood last September.

My speculation thus..he scouted for the army and Custer and wasn't there that day ?Of course, now, they re-write history and they'd go with the bromance/broke back mtn.. angle. Groan.

My wife's folks are from Deadwood. Several years ago we visited and went to the Saloon where they say it happened. They had the chair Wild Bill was sitting in up on the wall. Local folklore is pretty strong with those folks. It must have been a hell of a time. Deadwood is still more authentic Wild West than anywhere I've been, and I live in Arizona. I an easily see how Wild Bill ended up there; and found his end there.
I am holding in Trust a little 32 cal revolver that came from my wife's great, great grandmother. Her family owned the saloon Cristoforo Columbo in Deadwood around 1900. We have many photos of the saloon. One shows the two rooms with the back room set aside for women. I noticed a long row of small shed like structures in the back on one photo and asked about the use. Great grandma said that was boaders. Great grandpa cried "BS"; those were where the whores plied their trade. Interesting how family history gets cleaned up over time.
The little revolver was used by great great grandma; and kept behind the bar when they had riots at the mine and the Army was brought in. Sitting with my relatives, the stories went on for days. I love that the gun came down the family tree on the female side. I have caught hell from several of the male relatives who wanted the gun. Like I said, I'm holding it in Trust; for my young niece who loves shooting. I just think it belongs on that side of the War of the Sexes.

I don't think he's dead. I think it was all a hoax so they could save him the embarrassment of going blind in public because of an STD. I think he's still out there with Elvis and the aliens in Nevada.
