Picked up the first of the stainless Bisley Single Six 22s this morning.
My LGS got six in. Two had consecutive serial numbers, so guess what?
First one came home with me, second one on layaway. Too cool to pass up.
First thing I always do is a poor mans trigger job and stick in a set of new springs. This time I used Wilson Combat springs.
While apart, all small parts, hammer and trigger were high polished. Front sight was changed to the hooked back silhouette style.
Grip fit was typical crap. But, the spare white Hogue grips fit nearly perfectly. So a little recontouring with a file, followed by touching up the finish with sanding sponges and I was in business.
Gun's tolerances were good as was finished trigger job. I was optimistic about how it would shoot.
Haven't made it to a bench, but did to a 6x6" post. Propped beside the post, the gun shot half dollar size groups with cheap lead Federal ammo.
I believe finding ammo it like and a steady rest will reveal a fun plinking rimfire.

Thanks for the review. I have one in stainless headed my way after seeing the add on RF. I am hoping for a well-fitted example as some of my recent purchases exhibited QC flaws that necessitated trips back to Ruger. All were repaired or replaced but I would rather avoid that process.
Best,
Hugh

Hugh, I'm not going to lie to you or the other forum members. The six my LGS got in range from excellent to trout line weights.
Fortunately for me, my LGS let's me cherry pick what I want.

encore64,
In this instance, I'm perfectly happy if you lie to me. Tell whoppers. Go crazy. Use words like "bank vault tight", "breaks like a glass rod" and "one ragged hole". I'll even settle for "more accurate than I am" which, as we all know, can be said without fear of contradiction about almost every gun known to man.
But trout line? I just went from bated breath to baited breath.

They weren't aweful, but not for me. I just don't understand the wide variation in quality between guns. Admittedly, I have an O.C.D. problem.
If it makes you feel better, you described the two I bought very well.
I hope it does yours as well. Anxiously awaiting your report.

It ain't just Ruger. I went to Dixie Gun Works Wednesday. Was going to pick up a 5½" Uberti 1860 Richards-Mason .44Colt cartridge conversion. They had four in the store and every one of them was dragging the bolt. Meanwhile, the first examples of the Flat-Top Target .44-40 and 1851 Richards-Mason to come out of the box were excellent, so I bought them both.

I bought the Flattop Target 45 Colt from them and its simply excellent.
Hard to imagine that quality gun for such an affordable price.
Congrats on adding a couple fine ones.

Received my Stainless Bisley Single Six today--workmanship on the metal is excellent; grip fit is decent, but the locating pin recesses need to be deepened a bit. Nothing a drill press can't fix while I decide on who will make custom grips for me.

Davidsons has the blued one on sale right now and they are going quick. I was trying to put off buying one until the end of the month but 40 have disappeared since yesterday. Less than $390 out the door ain't too shabby.

Picked up my stainless Single Six Bisley that I purchased from an ad on the RF. No bueno. Obvious flaws include a grip frame that is not centered, causing it to be be proud on one side, shy on the other. Maybe correctable by loosening the screws and a whack with a dead blow hammer but, wait, there's more. Metal polishing is only fair - several patches of dull finish that escaped final polishing. Loading gate spring tension is too high requiring undue effort to open the loading gate. I think the front sight may be clocked but can't be certain as the rear sight blade has only one ear. The right ear has been broken off and is missing - not in the plastic bag, not in the box so I gather it was broken before packaging. I still need to measure the cylinder gap but it appears to be generous. I would like to shoot it to determine if there are accuracy issues before calling Customer Service but I don't have a spare sight blade or a Ransom Rest. The grips exhibit the same poor fit complained of elsewhere. They leave too much of the grip frame exposed and move under pressure with the screws snug.
All in all, a very disappointing example of "out of the box" quality from Ruger.

Well, I did warn you. My dealer has gotten in a total of nine at this point.
Two were near FA quality. A few were well above average and a few were as you described. It was hard to look at them spread out and believe they were built by the same company.
You can probably guess which ones I chose to bring home.

I lucked out a got a really nice one myself. But one thing is for certain, you're really just rolling the dice on buying any Ruger sight unseen these days...As for the factory grips, They provide nothing more than throwaway's...Which is both sad & pathetic considering the price we pay for new firearms today.

Got my second blued one for 400 out the door, I think I'll cut it to 4 5/8" and have Turnbull do the color case on the frame.
