Hi all, Having a set of grips made for my Bisley .357 and have a question. I get dinged with the trigger guard on occasion and while it's not a huge deal with a .357 I thought I'd read somewhere that thicker or thinner grips may help this situation. Anybody with insight on this. Thanks for any help.

Call JRH advanced gunsmithing 775-355-6898. They will custom make a grip and or frame to fit your hand. I just had Jack do my BFR 500 and it was well worth it.

I hate the thin, ill-shaped factory grips and thin custom grips aren't much better. Thicker, properly shaped custom grips make all the difference for me.

Thanks folks. I'd probably go to the trouble of a grip frame modification if this was a big boomer, had Bisley's in .44 Mag and .45 Colt that really hit me hard but as this one is a .357 it isn't bad and not an all the time thing. New grips will be a tad thicker and by Bob Leskovec so I'm sure the fit will be right.

I had a 4 5/8" SBH modified by JRH and a Williams 45 Colt Bisley stocked by Scott Kolar and both used a tracing of my hand. Naturally the JRH modded one gives me all the room in the world regardless of load, and the Kolar stocked Bisley will smack my finger if and only if I grip it wrong. Both set of stocks are rather thick and recoil for both is acceptable with hot loads.

I have a few questions about this issue. I've never encountered this issue before joining here. I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Is it because of the size of a guys hand that the trigger guard smacks them ? Length of fingers ? Tightness of hold ?

Basically you don't have enough room between the finger that's getting hit and the back of the trigger guard. So, some metal has to be relieved to create some space.

Bob Leskovec came through perfectly on these and while I didn't have him do anything special to avoid "knuckle bump", I no longer have the issue with this gun.

That's great! As you found out, properly fitting grips will often correct the knuckle busting.
What's the grip material? It looks like the old Westinghouse micarta.

They look great, Chief! Dick has made me several pair and he leave 'extra' material for me to do the final fitting. I always make the right panel a little thicker than the left to avoid the knuckle dustin'.

Good call Craig, yep it's the antique ivory Micarta and I couldn't be happier with them.

Until recently I thought my Clements 500 had a reshaped grip frame, since it doesn't whack me, but lesser kicking guns did. Come to find (after 16 years of assuming wrong) that the outside shape is the same as stock, but the contouring is what's different from stock. Two things of note.... for me anyway, how firm I grip the gun does effect getting nudged/bumped/whacked, quite a bit. Year back I had a 50AE Bisley I did not normal 50AE things with (405grWFN's @1300fps+). It beat me brutally. Wearing a padded glove made it worse. I had the finger portion from a pair of "tactical gloves", basically the padded knuckle portion. Wearing that padded knuckle ALSO made it worse!?? It was almost like the padding was giving the gun a running start. Sort of like holding a rifle stock tight to your shoulder or not I guess.
