Anyone have a USFA Lightning rifle? I picked one up yesterday from the local gun shop. I've been a big fan of their SAA revolvers and this rifle shows their noted high quality. I've been to many gun shows and gun shops but this is the first one I've seen in person. Some say under 300 made and some estimate as many as 900. The serial # of this one is over 2000.

44-40. I'm not sure what other calibers were available.Probably 38-40 and 45 Colt. Because of the extreme heat and low humidity here there is a ban on shooting, so have not been able to try it out.

I know my uncle grabbed in a couple years ago, a Carbine in 44/40 and as I recall and had a devil of a time getting it to run reliably and it is very sensitive to how a case is sized and the OAL of a case for it to chamber correctly. I think he got it all sorted out in time but it was not as dialed in form the factory as one might have hoped.

Fowler I can relate. As with a few firearms I've purchased, that Lightning hasn't been given the attention it deserves. However, once in hand I grabbed something 45 from the shed and it wouldn't load them. It'll be a while, but I'll figure it out. I recalled seeing one on GB years ago that had a receiver in the white which was ornately factory engraved in what they called a Celtic style. That gun got me wanting one and I got one last year unfired, still.
